Extended Profile
I'm a stay-at-home mom w/ a small Web design business (webvira.com). I have 2 sons; I home schooled them for a few years. For further info you may
msg me. I enjoy sewing, skating, anything creative, and online chat of the text and video varieties.
Things I'm currently learning/doing:
Reffing roller derby
Items in green are books I'm enjoying especially well and would recommend to others.

Many of the books in my bookshelf are random books acquired from book sales or donations from friends and family. I enjoy releasing all kinds of books! I just want to make it clear that
I don't read romance novels (not that there's anything wrong with that) ;)

BOOKCROSSING INFO FOR NEWBIES:
Here are the files (.doc) I'm using to create bookplates & informative flyers etc. Click the link to download the file.
BOOKPLATE
FLYER
BOOKMARK
FAMILY CIRCLE ARTICLE
How it's done:
* Register your book on bookcrossing.com
* Write the ID# on the bookplate and add your username, the date you're releasing it and where it will be released. Glue the bookplate on the inside cover of the book.
* Print out the
Family Circle magazine article about bookcrossing.com and place it in the book so that it peeks out a little bit.
* Use a bright sticky note on the outside of the book that says
I'M FREE!
This book is on a
very special journey!
(SEE INSIDE)
bookcrossing.com
* Find a public place to leave the book (see the tips below).
Some of the info contained in these files has been taken from other BookCrossing.com members' downloadable files. I'd like to thank them for helping to pass along this great information!
Good places to leave books:
Anywhere people have to sit for awhile. (i.e. Dr's office, car wash, kids' ballet class, etc.)
Tourist spots
Gas stations
ATM's
Coffee shops
Tips:
* If you're going to leave a book at the airport, reconsider! They're considered a security risk and may be thrown away. Try explaining Bookcrossing to the person next to you (especially if they're reading) and giving them the book to take with them instead.
* Malls are generally a bad place to leave books too. They usually get sent to lost and found
* If you're going to leave your book outside, place it in a clear plastic bag.
* I like to post the flyer in apartment complex laundry rooms and other bulletin boards. The flyer has a note at the bottom asking people to email me if they have books they'd like to donate so that I can release them.
* Many BookCrossing members register a few books as "unknown" and write the ID#'s on bookplates to take with them incase they come across a book they want to release before they get home. This is handy if you're reading on vacation and pick up a new book. If you finish that book before you come home, you just write down where you left it and the ISBN/Title and journal it when you get home.
* You may, likewise, register books you haven't read yet and write down the ID# on the bookplate, prepare the book for release and then make the journal entry after you've released the book.
* It's a good idea to keep a stack of prepared books in your car to release as you're out and about. I wish I would have taken more books on my trip to Yosemite!
MeetUps:
If you haven't been to one, I highly recommend that you try it! It's just a group of nice booklovers sitting around exchanging books and talking about them. Bring a few to trade and be ready to talk about your favorite authors, books you've been reading, and other such topics. I took my kids and bf who's not really much of a reader.. they all enjoyed it.
I plan to update this section as I learn more new tips! Until then, you can read the BookCrossing Forum for more good advice.
