the books I can't let go of | the books I've read this year

If you live in South Africa and you're interested in one of my "to be read" or "available" books, let me know and I'll be happy to send it on to you once I'm done with it :)

A note on my wishlist: It is super long, I know, and contains many obscure titles. This is because I use it as a personal reminder of any and every book that I hear or read about that sounds interesting to me. It usually won't contain the sort of book that I can easily get hold of at the bookshop where I work or at the local library, but rather the sort of thing that would require a bit of hunting. As such, I am always very grateful for RABCKs from my wishlist! And in return, if you're interested in anything I have, please ask!

NOTE: Until the end of 2008 I was busy writing a Masters thesis. If I have one of your books in my possession and you're wondering why it isn't moving on: as of March 2009 I will be working through my TBR pile with a vengeance! Thanks for your patience.

Your Result: Playfull RBACKer

Sent it as a gift, that's what you say. You are a daily visitor of the rback site. Releasing might be fun, but now I know for sure my book finds someone who actually wants it.
Just admit it, you just love to giftwrap.

South African online Bookcrossing community
If you're from or currently living in southern Africa, please check out our Livejournal community: Bookcrossing SA. As Bookcrossing is not yet very big in SA I'm hoping to get all of us who are active in touch with each other. Please PM me for more information :)

PLEASE NOTE: You can read and comment on the community without being logged on to Livejournal. However, you do need an LJ account to post a new entry. If you would like to start a new post but don't want to sign up on LJ, you can PM me with your message and I will post it on the community for you.

I'm taking part in a few release challenges, bookrings and bookrays. I try to keep these down as I am writing a Masters thesis this year (2008) while working fulltime - it may seem as though I have abandoned the challenges, but in fact I've just had to postpone them till after I get my degree. As for the rings and rays, these books take priority over my other reading - once the books arrive I will make sure I get them read and out of the house ASAP.

Release Challenges:
* African Authors A-Z

Bookrings and rays I've signed up for:
* The Sword Watchers by James E.G. Tonks (ray hosted by Jonniboi) - not yet started
* The Dressmaker by Elizabeth Birkelund Oberbeck (ring hosted by Germanophile) - on its way to me!
* The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle (rays hosted by last-unicorn) - both stalled
* Box of Delights by John Masefield (ring hosted by Jonniboi) - next on list
* Firmin by Sam Savage (ray hosted by allbookedup) - five to go - stalled
* Sleeping Naked is Green by Vanessa Farquharson (ring hosted by Kimmi)
* Hideous Kinky by Esther Freud (ray hosted by Ythan) - two to go - stalled
* Gilead by Marilynne Robinson (ring hosted by literarylover) - four to go - stalled
* The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant (ray hosted by darkhorse4460) - next on list - stalled
* The Crimes of Charlotte Bronte by James Tully (ring hosted by AgnesXNitt) - on its way to me - lost in post?
* The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood (ray hosted by geetheflea) - stalled
* 31 Songs by Nick Hornby (ray hosted by geetheflea) - lost in the post?
* Slavery book spiral (hosted by book-man-8)

* A Hard Day's Write by Steve Turner (ring hosted by Taniazed) - with me!
* Perfume by Patrick Suskind (ray hosted by chas04) - with me!
* Alone on a Wide Wide Sea by Michael Morpurgo (ray hosted by hakkalina) - with me!

Here's what I'd still like to get hold of. Thanks to Cliff1976 for this very useful tool. Besides using it for Bookcrossing, I also like to keep a printout in my bag for those unplanned library and bookshop visits ;)
