I'll read just about any genre, as long as the writing is good, but mystery/suspense/thrillers and humor are probably my favorites.
I love to read, but I am addicted to buying books. Consequently, I have probably fifty or more books that I bought or was given but haven't read. So, I've decided to start registering my unread books on Bookcrossing.com to help motivate me to read all these books that looked so good that I HAD to buy them, but then never read.
I think that having books registered and waiting to be read before being released will be a good incentive for me to get reading! When I was in grade school, I was a serious reader. I read 1-2 books per week, and could read a book from start to finish no matter how bad it was, and could get so absorbed in a book that I wouldn't get up from the couch for the whole day. Somehow, that changed when I got into college. I think that having to memorize all of the relevant facts in the books that I read in school made it hard for me to read books just for enjoyment and to get the overall ideas from them. I used to think that I was alone in this problem, but recently I've read and heard of several other people with the same issue. My hope is that forcing myself to read for pleasure and to finish the whole book even when I don't feel like it will help me to get over this.
