10: Excellent, wonderful, breaks new ground, takes breath away.
9: Really really good but not quite a ten.
8: Good, solid book. I would recommend this to others.
7: Good book, worth reading. But would be careful in my recommendation to others.
6: I'm not sorry I read it, but it is only average.
5: Barely worth reading. The line between taking it and leaving it is very thin.
4: Maybe somebody else would like this. I didn't.
3: Barely better than nothing. This book has an annoying flaw, or is poorly written.
2: Truly awful.
1: even worse than truly awful. I cannot see how anyone could possibly finish this.

note I will only really start applying this in 2009. Prior to that it was just a bit of a guess.
