I have always loved reading - it's my security blanket and fountain of knowledge, interests, enjoyment and just plain fun. I'm fairly omniverous in my reading, but more fiction than non. I was in a very special bookgroup for about ten years until I moved to Burlington from the Central Vt. area. It was so good that it spoiled me - I haven't found another here that was as interesting, though I've tried two or three. I do belong to an international on-line group which is reading and commenting on the books of Barbara Pym and that is lively and fun

Most of my working life was spent as an archivist here in Vermont - work that, for the most part. I found fascinating and very enjoyable. I was able to retire early (in my mid-fifties) and since then have done some traveling in England and Europe, (often through home/car swapping --- now that's another great idea - check out www.swapnow.com to see what I mean). I haven't been able to do this in the last few years, but hope to begin again in a year or so - it's a great way to spend time in another country. I really prefer it to B & B's, hotels, or tours.

I have two grown daughters; one is a book editor, in MN and the other is in Armenia as an older Peace Corps Volunteer. I visited Armenia in the fall of 2002l and it was the most interesting trip of my life. Both daughters are avid readers too, and often give me ideas about what they're reading that I might like. My sister is a librarian in southern Maine and we also share books, so it's a family thing!
