I’m not sure where my love of reading came from…it has always just been a part of me. Before my high school years I would combine my two favorite things, reading and trees. Some of my most enjoyable memories are of sitting high in a tree, being transported to yet another adventure, reading while my siblings looked everywhere, but up, for me.
When I finally felt I was to old for tree-climbing almost every night I would fall asleep with a book in my hands only to start reading as soon as I woke up. (Usually to my mother reminding me I was going to be late for school.)
I can’t say that as I have gotten older I’ve been able to fit my reading into a healthy balance. Often I pick up a book, shut out the world, and read until I get to the last page. However, there are spaces of time where I can’t seem to fit books into my daily schedule. These interludes are usually followed by days of voracious consumption of the written word.
I love Bookcrossing and the idea of sharing my love of reading with my fellow inhibitors of God’s green earth. Thank you, Ron, for bringing to conception this serendipitous idea!

After looking at my journal entries I realized I need a good system to rate the books I am reading. I am borrowing it from tnkbl with a few modifications.
10: Excellent, at the top of its category. This book has impacted me deeply, challenged me profoundly, or has simply been a pure delight to read.
9: Great book - just a nitpick stands between it and a 10
8: Good, solid book that I would recommend to others.
7: Good book, but it didn't grab me in a big way.
6: Decent.
5: Only OK. Barely worth reading. The line between taking it and leaving it is very thin.
4: Maybe somebody else would like this. I didn't.
2-3: Has major problems. I don't recommend it.
1: It's hard to imagine anyone liking this book.
