Extended Profile
I just discovered BookCrossing and think it is a great idea! I work at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, a selective liberal-arts college. I've been putting free books out for students and faculty to take for a long time before I knew about BookCrossing.
I found out about BookCrossing when I found a book on my "free book" table that someone else had released into the wild, with a BookCrossing label inside. That is how I got started on this.
I'm going to keep the BookCrossing zone in my office, which is in the Mood-Bridwell Hall, 2nd floor, Room 225. I no longer keep any free books out on the table by the elevator because of all the used bookstore salesmen who come into the building and take them. I want these books to be captured by someone who wants to read them...if I wanted them just to be sold, I would sell them myself on half.com!!!!
I have no problem with anyone keeping a book they received from me or that they found ("caught") after I have left it somewhere to be found ("released" it). It is yours to do with as you please - keep, wild release, swap, give to someone as a gift, or whatever. All I ask is that you PLEASE journal the book when you receive it.
I hope that other folks at Southwestern University will join BookCrossing and make our University the biggest and most active BookCrossing zone in the state of Texas!
A little about me:
I am a staff secretary at Southwestern University for the English, History, Political Science, Education, Classics, Sociology and Anthropology, Math and Computer Science, and Economics and Business Departments. I'm 42-years old, married, with one 13-year-old son. We moved to Georgetown, Texas in 2007 from Rochester, NY. I lived in Texas when I was a kid and couldn't wait to get back!
I've always loved books. When I lived in Mumford, NY I had a barn with a second story full of books. I couldn't bring them all to Texas with me, so I had a huge garage sale, and donated what remained to the library and the local nursing homes. I miss some of those books, but hope they found good homes.
I wish I knew about BookCrossing a long time ago. Now my inventory is down to just the books that I love dearly, and have a hard time parting with. I will hopefully be able to convince myself that it is better to share!
Currently I enjoy reading fiction about Texas and family life in the South, feminine spirituality, global warming and climate change, and erotica.
Words that describe me:
girly
barefoot
gypse
Texan
environmentalist
honest
organized
interested
crafty
natural
open
beachcomber
