Part detective novel, part romance, this Victorian classic has been out of print and unavailable for decades. Though Blackmore was a very popular writer in his own time, modern readers are generally familiar only with Lorna Doone. Perhaps Clara, who travels in disguise, rapels down the side of a building, and goes to great lengths to solve her father's murder, was just a bit too fiesty for pre-modern audiences.
