I live in Beijing since 2000. During the first few years it was hard to come by but since 2004, many more books have become available, but almost always at high prices (newly bought). There are few 2nd-hand bookstore in Beijing, and they have little to
offer. I have very much benefitted from Bookmooch. It is difficult to get rid of books. I have sold some in Europe, but need other channels to shed books.
In the beginning I did not like Bookmooch very much. I think the idea is interesting, but fear release in the wild will mainly lead to loss of many books. Besides, many books are made to look very ugly with multiple book plates, stickers and writings on them.
As a book lover it hurts to see books damaged like that. However, I have come to realize not all books have the same value, so devaluing them a bit more hardly makes a difference. Besides, most books look infinitely better than what can be bought 2nd-hand
in China.
Here I will only list books I wish to shed; Books which I have read and subsequently given away will remain in my on-line catalogue together with other books in my permanent collection on LibraryThing.
Books marked available can be requested. I can give them to anyone who lives in Beijing. For overseas shipping, please contact me. I may be able to send books through Bookmooch. (see my account there: http://bookmooch.com/m/bio/edwinbcn).
There are books in various languages: English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian and a few other.
In Beijing, I sell obsolete books to the Cathay Bookstore (Zhongguo Shudian) -Dongsi branch. This is a second-hand bookstore on Dongsi Dajie, about 30 m. north of the intersection with Dengshi Dongkou. Check it out!
