Extended Profile
20071021: I'm the mother of three boys. A few years ago we took a family vacation by car around Lake Michigan. I was napping when the boys started to get a little loud. I was just conscious enough to hear one of them say to the other two "Shhhh. Don't
wake the bear." Well, I began to smile and then giggle and pretty soon we were all laughing -mostly because how true that is. The admonition has stuck. I proudly hang above my desk at home a wooden sign, purchased on vacation, that says "DON'T WAKE the BEAR".
20071122: Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for my family and friends. I count as my friends those who share my love of good books. The "Westside Book Club", of which I am a founding member, first started meeting in 1989/1990 and continues to meet once a month. We just naturally morphed out of a successful babysitting cooperative -at the time I had a three year old and a newborn (I needed good books, I needed good friends, and I needed an excuse to get out of the house). I credit the book club with challenging me to seek out well told stories and talented writers -before that, I was a BIG Barbara Cartland fan (I'm holding my shaking head in my hands). I cannot tell you how many times, within the first few minutes of meeting someone new, I've asked "So, read any good books lately?" and have made a new friend. And nine times out of ten, they're in a book club too. I credit the women of the "Westside Book Club" with assisting me in finding my voice. They are smart, funny women who have enriched my life and have empowered me to be the person I am today. I am very thankful.
