"outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. inside a dog, it's too dark to read." - groucho marx
welcome to my bookshelf!!
i'm a housebound bookcrosser who adores everything about books: i keep detailed lists of new stuff to investigate and things to buy; and i find the regular reorganisation of my bookcases oddly satisfying :) i'm on a limited income, so i was delighted to discover
"the book depository" (www.bookdepository.co.uk) - a brilliant online store with a huge catalogue, great prices (and the real kicker), free postage worldwide!! oh, it's always a happy day when a book arrives in the mail!
my grand passions are fantasy sagas of all kinds, and world mythology and spirituality. i've got too many favourite authors to count, but a short list of my current loves would include neil gaiman (my literary hero!), terry pratchett, jasper fforde, sara douglass
(the world is dimmer with her no longer in it), katharine kerr, terry goodkind, tolkien, j.k rowling and charlaine harris' sookie stackhouse novels (lots of fun, and completely anti-"twilight"!) my most recent "discoveries" are diana wynne jones, christopher
brookmyre, and c.j sansom's shardlake series.
my love of great writing extends beyond books - i'm a big movie buff (my favourite is peter jackson's "lord of the rings" trilogy), and i enjoy tv that is good fun and cleverly scripted (joss whedon shows feature heavily in this category!!). i like to watch
sci-fi but hate to read it (i love to watch "firefly", "babylon 5", and star trek "deep space nine"), although having said that, grooble passed me a book of ursula le guin's short stories that i really connected with (which was a huge and pleasant surprise!!)
i'm a big fan of black comedy, and i have a real soft spot for cheesy christmas movies and girly romantic movies.
when i'm not reading or watching, i like to make teddy bears and cards, write in my journal, listen to music (or audiobooks), and fish the 'net.
keep an eye on my bookshelf, 'cause it's growing all the time... my "pc" will tell you the things i personally enjoy! i'm happy to trade, and
i don't mind if a trade stays in your personal collection. i do ask, however, that you journal any book i send, so i know it's arrived safe and sound :) if you ever want to surprise me with books (or a large inheritance!), you'll find my details
at rabck.com
a note about the status of books on this shelf - only books sent me by other bookcrossers are marked as "tbr". books acquired in any other way will be marked as "pc" until i've read them or otherwise decided what
to do with them. "reserved" either means i'm hanging on to a book till my mom can read it, or i'm soon to send it out to someone special. my book release statistics are way off, too. we didn't always have the "controlled release" statistic at bookcrossing,
and many of my books went out as rabcks or trades, so don't be too sure about how many of them are out in the world somewhere...
