I'd always been protective of my books and not been a real lender but I love the idea of a world-wide literary treasure hunt and I believe that books are very powerful; they have the ability to change people profoundly. Releasing them has been much easier
than I thought. Even if I don't hear who's picked them up it's nice to imagine that a few of them have fallen into the right hands at the right time. Books don't become available very quickly on my BC shelf as I'm actually reading each one (or at least trying
them out) before I release them.
Originally from Canada (but an expat for 24 years now) I'm still catching up on great Australian works as well as enjoying reading new and favourite Canadian authors. When I'm not tending to my own bookshelf I'm busy registering and releasing for Blue-box,
the Warrandyte Neighbourhood House OBCZ. I also teach part-time in a high school library and work for Learning Services at the State Library of Victoria.
Today (24/04/2012) I'm reading:
The Shiny Guy by Doug McLeod
The rating system…
This is the scale I use to rate books that I've recently read. It was 'stolen' from lmn60's bookshelf who stole it from the really useful book rating system on scism’s bookshelf.
10: Excellent, at the top of its category. This book has impacted me deeply, challenged me profoundly, or has simply been a pure delight to read.
9: Great book - just a nitpick stands between it and a 10
8: Good, solid book that I would recommend to others.
7: Good book, but it didn’t grab me in a big way.
6: Decent, but not for me.
5: Maybe somebody else would like this. I didn't.
4: Only OK. Barely worth reading. The line between taking it and leaving it is very thin.
2-3: Has major problems. I don't recommend it.
1: It's hard to imagine anyone liking this book.I didn't finish it!
