Extended Profile
I am a cultural anthropologist who did extensive field research in Africa. Last year I left Wisconsin and moved to St. Louis. I also studied some social work here at Saint Louis University but am taking a break from the program for a year. I worked with
the homeless all summer, and I am planning to do some work with battered women next.
I like to read literature, both classic and contemporary, and particularly enjoy works that cross cultures. I also like short stories, poetry, and science fiction, especially such sci-fi writers as Sheri Tepper (I suppose you could call this feminist sci-fi),
J.G. Ballard, and Philip K. Dick. I read a lot of non-fiction as well, particularly psychology (but usually not pop-psychology), science and religion. Recently I was reading a lot of skeptical literature, allowing myself to be challenged by arguments against
the existence of God. Right now I'm heavy into sci fi, and always looking for the good stuff. And then, there are the textbooks.
I enjoy origami, crochet, beading and cross-stitch, and teach and do origami displays. I am an avid cross-stitcher, but am focusing on crochet right now. I love cookbooks, craft books, cross stitch and origami books.
I have a black and white border collie (with ticking) named Ace and an orange tabby cat named Che. I have three children, two in college and one in high school. I recently left my husband of 25 years and am ensconced comfortably in a great apartment in St.
Louis's Central West End. I enjoy being on my own and seeing my daughter often. We are currently in the process of commissioning a mural for her room -- she wants it psychedelic!
Next we are getting a rat. There was one on Craigslist that is a year old and available. We are going to check him out!
