Hi, I'm Pau. There's really not much to say about me, other than the fact that I'm a voracious reader. I'm currently a senior Journalism student, and reading is pretty much the only distraction from school that's neither unhealthy nor expensive. Well, unless I go on for a long time skipping meals because of a really good read, or hoard books when I come across book sales. I'm 20 and amusingly curly (hair or brain - goes both ways, really)I'm not big on paragraphs - I'm more into lists, so here's a get-to-know-me-in-bullets:
* I hate fish. It's pretty much the only kind of meat I'm icky with (worst still is liver - blech). I think it's because I'm Pisces (my birthday's on March 8).
* My mother named me after a character she read in a book. When I asked her about it for an assignment on where our names came from in 2nd grade, she couldn't recall the book's title or author - all she could remember was that the Pauline character in the book was a detective. It's been a mystery to me ever since. Close call: James Patterson's The Beach House, which unfortunately was written years after I was born.
* I'm the eldest of six (4 girls, 2 boys) and I reckon half of us sibs are big readers. I think.
* I have a folder on my desktop called Attempts at Immortality. It's filled with drafts and ideas for novels, short stories, and skits. Nope, nobody's read them besides me. Yet.
* I have a book blog called The Wannabe Literati.
* This year, I'll be reading through the 1001 lists as well as award-winning books. Yes, such is my attempt in exposing myself to the great reads of the world. Hopefully I can keep it up, though.
* My favorite author is Augusten Burroughs, mainly because I find him so brave for sharing his entire life for the world to read.
I'm also on Goodreads, LibraryThing, and Shelfari, as well as Twitter and Tumblr.
This 2011 I will be:
1. reading through the 1001 list. I made a spreadsheet combining all three editions (2006, 2008, 2010) - it's a bit crude, but functional in the least. I'm looking for copies of these books, so if you happen to host/be part of a book ring/ray of a 1001 book, or have a copy you're willing to RABCK or trade, don't hesitate to PM me!
2. starting my Book Awards Project, which basically involves award-winning books. Currently I am reading though the following book awards lists:
Man Booker / Pulitzer / NBA / NBCC / LA Times Book Prize/ Ambassador Book Prize / PEN-Hemingway Award / PEN-Faulkner Award / Orange Prize / NBA's 5 Under 35 Literary Selections / Man Asian Literary Award / Not the Booker
I am also on the look out for these titles, so if you happen to have a copy you're willing to pass on, please do let me know! Here's a spreadsheet I use to keep track of which ones I own and have read.
I only mark books as PC when I'm waiting for family members to read them or when they're in hardcover. I don't keep books that I've gotten through BookCrossing - I will either RABCK them or donate them to virtual BC libraries, such as the 1001 library in the case of those books in the 1001 list. If I really, really love a BC-received book and am feeling a bit selfish about letting it go, I share it through book rings. I'm also a bit partial to controlled releases, mostly as RABCKs - I am happier giving away a book to someone who is actually looking for it and wants to read it. :)
Oh, and one very important note: most of my books have highlights, though majority are in really good to brand new conditions - I just have this itch to highlight passages that strike me as interesting when reading. So if you don't mind highlights, I'm open to trades/RABCKs and other whatnots - so please don't hesitate to contact me!
In case you think your PMs aren't reaching me, you may email me directly: akosikulot(at)gmail(dot)com I usually check my email twice a day, so I'll most likely be able to reply promptly!
PS. I am on RABCK! While I am from the Philippines, I also have a US address (my aunt's at San Francisco - please PM me if you need it). In the case that RABCK.com has problems or PM's aren't getting through, here's my address:
For the RABCKs (books or otherwise), for passing on or starting rings/raysI've joined, and for generally making my BookCrossing experience a great one!
