Going to Amsterdam? Go visit OBCZ-Lef

As a kid I drove my parents crazy. When they asked what kind of present I wanted to have for my birthday or from "Sinterklaas" (the Dutch Santa) I always said: "A book." "Don't you ever want something nice?", they asked. Well, you can guess my answer. Now I don't want people to give me books 'out of the blue'. Nine out of ten are books I would never have chosen myself.

BookCrossing is TERRIFIC, but .... I can hardly let my books go into the wild. It feels like kicking your kids out of the house. So I started releasing some 'twins'. (Just before boarding a train you buy a book and when you're reading it you think: "I've read this before." Of course you have. It's already on your shelves.) Those twins - well, half of them - I left 'in the wild'. I've not heard of them since. After that I stopped releasing for about a year. I couldn't let my books go.

After a lot of soul searching I have become a 'born-again' booklover. I've chosen a number of my books that may leave their comfortable place on my shelves and go into the wide wild world. May they travel in peace and give enjoyment to other booklovers. Books with "1" preceding the title are actually "PC", but they are currently someplace else or reserved for someone. Books with "2" preceding the title and books on my shelf that are registered by someone else are really 'AVL'.

So with me 'AVL' usually means: I will send the book to you (if the book is not too heavy and you don't live too far away) so you can read it, but I want to have it back. Sorry, I'm (still) that kind of guy! However, if I find a book in the wild or obtain it by controlled release, I will always send it on its way later.

Come and take choice of all my library and so beguile thy sorrow. (William Shakespeare)
I've registered only a few of my books. If you want to see them all, go to BOEKEN
If you want to read one of them: send me a PM. I'll register it and send it to you. You also find some more really AVL books here.

My wishlist: all the books I'd love to read but haven't met yet.

Bookrings I started:
- An Irishman's difficulty with the Dutch language;
-The Pooh perplex;
-
Dancing cats and neglected murderesses. This ring is closed.
- Zuster Belinda en het geheime leven van Dokter Dushkind. This ring is closed.

Some of my favourite authors: A. Koolhaas, Joseph Heller, Trijntje Fop, Isaac Asimov, Bernard Malamud, Kurt Vonnegut, S. Carmiggelt, Arthur C. Clarke, Ian McEwan, Stephen King, Noam Chomsky, Ayn Rand, David Halberstam.
