Extended Profile
I've been an avid reader all my life, from early childhood when I was read to every night, through to now when I have several books on the go at the same time. My parents read to me from a very early age, and by the age of 5 I had finished the full version of the Wind in the Willows.
I love sharing good books with other people, and recently I came to the realisation that there are so many books and so much time to read them in, and now I have people to share this with.
I particularly like reading fantasy books, but I will read pretty much anything! (Even cereal packets.) I have been known to walk along the street reading, despite the lamp posts.
Most of the fantasy books I read are aimed at teen audiences, but I find that they are so well written, I enjoy them. Favourites include the Northern Lights trilogy (Phillip Pullman - If you love them read the Lockhart books!), anything by Diana Wynne Jones (Especially Howl's Moving Casle) and the Phantom Tollboth (Norton Juster), all of which come highly recommended.
I am a teacher (Years 1 & 2 - 5, 6 & 7 year olds) and I try to inspire a love of good books with them - we read loads of picture books - my favourites are the Jez Albrough Duck series, which are just utterly adorable, and classics like 'Where The Wild Things Are'. I also read longer stories to them, we read 'Fantastic Mr Fox' and 'The Twits' with my last class.
I'm always interested in hearing recommendations for books for this age group, so feel free to PM them to me!
