ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lawrence Wertan is the internationally known author of dog books whose heart warming stories have been popular in America, Scotland, England, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, South Africa, Argentina, and Canada. His book and magazine credits include The Lost Champion, International Grand Crown, The Reader's Digest, Time Magazine, Charleston Magazine, Sandlapper: The Magazine of South Carolina, The American Airedale, The Mountain Mirror, The Charleston News & Courier, The Seafer Literary Magazine, AireNotes, numerous local and regional publications.
As a student he has taken professional writing courses at the University of South Carolina under Pulitzer Prize winning author James Dickey and noted Southern regional writer, William Price Fox.
Wertan holds a B.S. degree from Charleston Southern University and a Masters degree from The Citadel as well as serving on the American Library Association's Andrew Carnegie Award Selection Committee in 1998. He has also been a presenter to the Tennessee Library Association Annual Conference.

Wertan was born on a dark and stormy night in America's most historical city, Charleston, South Carolina. He is one of a loud and boisterous family born of an Irish actress and an American Sea Captain. Wertan has been a soldier, actor, journalist, and writer. He married Theresa Lee McCracken and lived happily ever after. He lives and works on a mountain top with his wife and daughter, Jackson Bennett Wertan, and Airedale Duke, who drinks Iron City Beer, smokes cheap cigars, and laughs out loud at the instructor during doggie socialization classes.
