Sorry - black hole at the moment, but not intentionally. If I'm delaying a book you're waiting for, or holding up your ring, please let me know if it's causing you a problem. Thank you!
I've enjoyed books for as long as I can remember, and reading for almost as long :) Books seem to be in just about every room of our house, and, since we both have a computing backgound stretching back to the time well before pcs and IT, computers and their bits seem to be in quite a few as well. Children, dogs and their toys/activities take up any remaining space, and the dogs in particular are good at knocking over and merging piles of books!
I first joined bookcrossing because it seemed a good way of making bookshelf space. I now know that it doesn't really work that way; although quite a few books have left my (real) shelves, they've been replaced by more, often new ones by new-to-me authors (which don't show up in my 'stats'!)
There's friendly, usually UK related, bookcrossers' discussion at the UK Yahoo groupwww.sponsorabollard.com/---/bcunconvention2.gif" alt="BCUK Unconvention, Birmingham, 1st-3rd July 2005. Will you be there?" hspace="5" vspace="5" border="1" align="right">
Wild books: 50 released, 7 caught, 2 (hunted for &) found
OBCZ books: 24 released, 8 caught, 19 found
Meet-up books: 61 released, 37 caught, 61 found Oh dear - better make sure I release more than I pick up next time!
Rings/rays I've started - please PM me if you'd like to join. All are currently for BCUK members (including those who live outside the UK of course!) - I'm happy to extend them to others.
Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson
Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder
Portuguese Irregular Verbs by Alexander McCall Smith
The Finer Points of Sausage Dogs by Alexander McCall Smith
Flesh and Blood by Jonathan Kellerman
On my bookshelf:
PC - a previously unregistered book someone wanted to read. Probably available for loan to bookcrossers I know virtually or in person.
RES - there is a definite plan for the book.
AVL - nothing definite planned, book is likely to be released or passed on fairly soon. I'm usually happy to ray these.
TBR - waiting to be read - large pile at the moment! I'm often happy to ring these.
Rings/rays I am currently reading:
'If on a Winter's Night a Traveller' by Italo Calvino (kangaroo)
'Felidae' by Akif Pirincci (WistfulDragon and Shylock)
'The Kingdom by the Sea' by Paul Theroux (Shylock)
'A Different Life' by Lois Keith (Gooner)
'Pastwatch' by Orson Scott Card (loopy1)
'Der Kater und die schwarzen Kreuze' by Jo Pestum (loopy1)
'White Teeth' by Zadie Smith (Heaven-Ali)
'The KnowHow Book of Flying Models' (chelseagirl)
Yes, I know there are far too many of them, but several came together as they usually do!
About to pass on, or waiting for contact info to pass on:
'Azzurro' by Prozinger and Gaymann (YowlYY)
'Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow' by Peter Hoeg (Gooner)
'Ladies of the Lake' by Caitlin and John Matthews (tehuti)
I have recently finished:
'Silver Pigs' and 'Shadows in Bronze' by Lindsey Davis (shylock), sent on to Starry-Starry
