Extended Profile
I work full time as an academic librarian, at a college in Boston, MA. I am a mother of two adult children, both married; my daughter is pursuing a PhD in history, and my son is self employed in a general contracting company. He and his wife have two sons,
aged 31/2 and 1 year old. My husband and I have recently moved to the town where our son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons live, so we see them more regularly.
I belong to two book discussion groups, one I call my city group, and one my suburban group. We read similar types of books in each group, usually fiction, although sometimes we venture into non-fiction. In each group, we rotate discussion leader, but we by consensus agree on the title for the next meeting. Then the leader for the upcoming meeting finds criticism of the book, biographical information about the author, and plans a few questions to start the discussion. Usually no more than that is necessary for the evening to become a forum for sharing and enjoyment of comments about the book we have all read.
Given that I also read during my commute to and from Boston, I have accumulated hundreds, possibly thousands, of books. I like the idea of sharing books which I have enjoyed, and since this move really was difficult for both my husband and I because of the vast quantities of "things" we have acquired over nearly 40 years of marriage, it has occured to me that I should start shedding books as well as other household items no longer used regularly. I hope to find some great locations for releasing many of my books.
