Extended Profile
I want to thank everyone who helped out with last weekend’s big BookCrossing release party.
Thanks to your help, it was a great success!
Thanks to Half Priced books, Harper’s books, the Kansas City FreeCycle network, and enthusiastic BookCrossing members, we had a grand total of
1,553 books to giveaway.
363 of these
books were sent by individual BookCrossing members alone.
Thanks to library staff and volunteers, the remaining1,190 donated books were registered onto the BookCrossing Web Site so they could be given away at the big event. The staff members and volunteers
did a lot of hard work so we could give these books away!
Thanks to all who helped promote and market the event, we had a total of133people show up. Including the volunteers who also took books, we can put ourselves
at a count of 140 people for the event. There were also some people who managed to sneak in behind Michelle without being counted, so I’m sure more showed up than statistics illustrate. To those who spread
the word, somebody listened- thanks for helping out.
With the amount of people who showed up, and the number of boxes left over, I estimate that we gave away at least 900 books! Since last Saturday, 15-20 different people have made BookCrossing journal entries for their books, being 1-13 journal entries depending
on the amount of books they picked up. Each day, we get at least one new journal entry on the website—usually up to five different journal entries per day.
The results say that this program was a real success, and it will continue to be successful as the books continue their journey forward. Almost every journal entry mentions that the reader will pass the book on after reading it, so it looks like this program
has started a life-long book giving process through the
BookCrossing website.
In closing, I just wanted to thank everyone who took the time out of their schedule to volunteer and make this program a real hit. Hard work pays off, and it wouldn’t have been possible without your support.

There are some people who sent us some boxes that didn't make it in time for our event. I plan on periodically dropping these books off at local coffee shops in Kansas City.
