Extended Profile
The Greater Grand Crossing Branch is made possible in part through a land donation by the Gary Comer Science and Education Foundation. It shares a commitment of service to the community with the Gary Comer College Preparatory High School and the Gary Comer
Youth Center. The new branch enhances library service to a community that has been without a local branch.
The branch features environmentally sustainable construction, anticipating "Gold" certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. The adjacent Comer Family Reading Garden offers outside space for patrons to enjoy library services, and is dedicated in thanks to the Comer family for their generosity to the Chicago Public Library and to this community.
