March 2010 - 7th Birthday

I'm coming up to my 7th anniversary here, a lifetime you might say! I have a few books to release this week to take me up to 750, which neatly matches the 750 registered over the years.

July 2009 - 700th book released

...in 6 years and 4 months, a lot of books, but there are still plenty cluttering up the house. How does that happen!

Readin' & Releasin' Challenges

After many years 'crossing books, I maintain a hand-to-mouth existence; as soon as I read'em, they get released, passed on, or help to keep the Ipswich OBCZ stocked. This year as I will try to:

(1)
Read some of my older borrowed books and other to-be-reads, some of which go back 5 years
(2) As per last year's release challenge, I want to wild release at least 1 book a month...and try to end the year with a net deficit of 'books-in' minus 'books-out'
(3) After finishing the excellent 70th Anniversary 'Pocket Penguins' I will continue with the, let's face it, less desirable Penguin 60's :(

Here is my wishlist! I think i've resisted long enough. The only thing is, since writing these down i've fulfilled loads of my own wishes, maybe i'm somehow willing the books to appear in charity shops or special offer deals??

About Bookshelves (OBCZs) & Meet-ups

We still have a bookshelf/OBCZ in Caffe Nero Ipswich 'CaffeNeroIP1' but we've moved the regular meet-up to a new venue, Coffee Link, Neptune Quay . We (The Committee) are grateful for the ongoing support of the patrons and the good people of Suffolk, Essex & Cambs helping to keep the shelves(!) stocked. The list of honours is too long now, but you know who you are :)

We meet at Coffee Link on the 2nd Saturday every month at 11 o'clock. We hope to see you all...old friends and new :)

About Me

Passionate serial reader of many years standing, you must recognise the addictive behaviour; starting the next book from the smoking stub of the previous one! Quite wide ranging tastes ('I like what I like') Have even been know to read and enjoy 'girls' books, but that doesn't make me a bad person ;-)

I live near Woodbridge in glorious Suffolk, and work in various places as a freelance Business Analyst.

If there are any books that you fancy before I release them, speak now or forever hold your tongue, eathier thaid than done.

ps. I will send RABCK (random act of book crossing kindness) or trade most of the books, preferably within the UK, but those marked To Be Read or Permanent Collection, you may have to wait for, or bookring, so that I get them back again!

If anyone if interested in joining our little alternative UK on-line community? Its a great forum for sharing books, BookCrossing stories and other goss. A good craic :-)

And last but not least some older release-type notes, which I should tidy-up some day...

4th Anniversary Sweepstake

To celebrate my upcoming 4th BC birthday (4 years!) I am procuring and giving away 4 books, based on your 'wishes' or picks from my tbrs/availables. I will do the draw in early March...so it's not too late to join, so PM me!

Draw complete, and the winners are Flanners, IsisJem, Marie-Therese & TurquoiseFloyd \o/\o/\o/\o/
Thank you to everyone who took part :)

March'06 3rd Anniversary "Spread the Word" Book Box
This "Spread the Word" Book Box is my attempt to introduce some new authors to participants...to celebrate my 3 years in this mad house ;)

Now back home after its travels up and down the country for over 18 months! Thank you to all who have taken part :)

September'05 Crime Book Boxes
Colonel Mustard
Finished! After 15 months on its travels throughout the UK, Col. Mustard has now officially 'retired' to Devon, quite fitting for the old boy to finish his journey at the seaside; hankerchief knotted, windbreak erected, dozing with his nose in a good book :) Thank you all for taking part.
Miss Scarlett
Miss Scarlett 'ray is now closed, it has been re-distributed to a new OBCZ in Durham.
Col Mustard has now reached the end of its journey - after a bit of a sojourn in someone's attic (no names, no pack-drill!) - to be distributed by Blum. Thanks to everyone for taking part :)

My Bookrays All 'perpetual' rays, open for new players...:)
The Road to Wellville by T C Boyle
Bimbos of the Death Sun by Sharyn McCrumb
Silicon Snake Oil by Clifford Stoll
The Shores of Space by Richard Matheson

November'05 Bookrays I've just sent out some books as 'mini-rays' to de-clutter and reach a milestone of *300* books released:
The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
Three Men in a Boat by Jermoe K Jerome
Man and Wife by Tony Parsons
An Artist of the Floating World by Kazuo Ishiguro - join now!
Douglas Adams collection inc. 'Hitchiker' 1 to 3 and 'Dirk Gentley' 1 & 2

My Controlled or 'Tame' Releases...

To tidy up a bit, i've moved this list of who I've given what to, into My Book Journal. I have not kept this list up to date.

All the other releases are either at OBCZs, meetups or wild (well as least mildy unhappy until they are found and journalled - yes I mean you!)
