Extended Profile

I'm not much on public profiles, but I thought I should toss something up here.

I was a wheresgeorger for almost 5 years. I quit when I lost my stamper. I'd been thinking of starting up again, but I'm having so much more fun with bookcrossing than I ever did with it.

HallieK and I lived in the same apartment complex; She left a book on the newspaper stand by the mailboxes in Oct '04 and I found it, read it, journaled it, and released it. That was my first exposure to bookcrossing.

I'm looking forward to lots of fun and good reading.

TBR
It's in line to be read. Could be selected tomorrow or it could be years from now. Feel free to inquire as if it were an AVL. All books that I find/receive from bookcrossers go in this category. Bookrings/bookrays go on top. I have a lot of these books. Please be aware that your book may sit in this pile for months or years before I get to it.

Note: I've got a new section of my profile where I predict most of the books I'll be reading in the next 3-6 months (not counting Bookrings/rays). Number of previous journalers and how long I've held it (if previously registered) play a part in determining which books are on this list.

AVL
It's been read or isn't going to be read. PM me with offers to trade for something on my wishlist or something you think I'd like. Please don't PM asking for a RABCK. (If there's a book you really want, put it on your wishlist at cliff's and I'll PM you if I put it on bookrelay or decide to RABCK it.)
I also post books for trade at these sites (If you see a book marked AVL that's not listed there, PM me).
PC
I'm not ready to let go of it yet. You can ask to borrow it, but don't be surprised if I say no. These are here to give a better feel of my taste in books. They may get released if they fit a bookrelay that I really want. If you send me a book, it's not going to end up in my Permanent Collection, but I don't mind if books that I registered end up in yours.
RES
These books, I have some grand plan for. It may be an individual I want to give them to, a time or place I want to release them, or a bookrelay that I'm waiting for something I want to appear on. Feel free to treat them as AVL also.

The majority of my releases have been controlled. I like knowing that my books are going to someone who wants them. I had a bad experience at a hotel in Newark once where I found a wild release book in the trash, and I hate to think of any of my books ending up that way. That doesn't mean I don't wild release. I have also released books at OBCZs and to friends who've read them and left them in coffee shops. Ultimately, I don't have a good idea of how many Wild releases I've done, and can't compute what percentage have been caught. However, I can share the catches with you as raw data:

I have a wish list at cliff's site [Thanks cliff!]:

Here's the system that I'm going try to use to rate books [stolen from calicocollie, who adapted it from tnkbl, who got it from Starbytes, who got it from Gizmopuddy, who got it from Sugarkane (now florafloraflora) and Scism]:

10: Excellent, at the top of its category. This book has impacted me deeply, challenged me profoundly, or has simply been a pure delight to read.
9: Great book - just a nitpick stands between it and a 10
7-8: Good, solid book that I would recommend to others.
6: Decent, but not great.
4-5: Only OK. Barely worth reading. The line between taking it and leaving it is very thin.
2-3: Has major problems. I don't recommend it.
1: It's hard to imagine anyone liking this book.

In May-05, I had almost 90 TBRs (and another 99 books on my wish list) [currently 182 TBR, 112 Wishes]. I'd started having problems keeping track of what I have, and figuring out what I really wanted to read next. I figured out a system to help, and it tells me that upcoming TBRs include:

Which Heinlein Book Should You Have Been A Character In?
I can't believe it. I tend to be surprised at other people who post quiz results on their profile. However, I finally found a quiz that was interesting enough for me to take and post:

You belong in Time Enough For Love. You are older than you look. Your wit and wisdom are prized by others. People throw themselves on you, begging to be with you.
Take this quiz!
