Lighthouses are surrounded by the natural world and the animals and birds that make their home living within the rhythms of sea, sky and land. Elinor DeWire's wonderful book describes the wild birds and animals which played a big part in the lives of lighthouse keepers and their families. I also very much enjoyed reading about the domestic animals—horses and donkeys, dogs and cats—which gave companionship and also helped with the important work at the lighthouse stations. This is a delightful book by lighthouse expert Elinor DeWire.
