"This politically correct Hollywood romance leaves no plotting stone unturned. For her discovery of an ancient human relic, glamorous UCLA anthropologist Cassie Barrett is rocketed to the prominence of a '90s-style Margaret Mead. As if that's not enough, she goes to Kenya as technical consultant on a movie starring hunk-of-the-month Alex Rivers. After a whirlwind romance, Cassie becomes the new Mrs. Rivers, toast of filmdom's beautiful people. But all is not bliss for the newlyweds: Alex's tortured past just won't let go, and Cassie must bear the brunt of his emotional scars. Perhaps attempting to salvage the predictable plot, Picoult administers to Cassie's bland character a dose of adrenalin-pumping amnesia. She also throws in a dollop of Native American culture and a noble savage who skirts the periphery of Cassie's tumultuous existence, always ready with sage advice, spiritual healing techniques and warm embraces. Some rather prettily told Indian legends are added to the mix, but the total effect is wide of the mark."
I didn't find this book as captivating as some other books by Jodi Picoult, I've read plenty of them during the couple of years. This wasn't a very compact story, which lead me to some concentration problems, though the intensity grew towards the end. For some reason I've read several books about the same theme - domestic violence - recently, and perhaps that was one reason I didn't find this book so special. Worth of reading, however, and I still find Jodi Picoult as one of my favourite authors.

Doing some Spring cleaning and I think it's time to let go of huge amount of books that have been in my bookshelf for years. Books, that I have picked up many times but yet put them back. Books, that have moved houses quite many times. Books, that represent a genre I've grown out of past years.

Thank you! I'm a fan of Jodi Picoult :) This wasn't quite as good as some other books by her but there was this ability of hers to see things from different aspects.

Although there was a serious theme in this book, domestic violence, I quite liked reading it. Characters were well described, their history, jobs etc and there were interesting sceneries in the story, too (Tanzania, Indian reservation, L.A). ps. On page 190 Finland was mentioned. Cassie and Alex were playing Geography when Cassie mentioned Finland while naming countries.
