Amazon UK Review
A man is burnt to death in a car in Epping Forest, the victim of professional hitmen. The evidence suggest that the dead man’s wife, Donna Langford, hired the killers, and she is found guilty of conspiracy to murder. A decade passes, and just before her release from prison, Donna is sent a photo: it is that of her supposedly murdered spouse. Is he, in fact, dead? And if not, whose was the charred body in the burnt-out Jaguar? Shortly after, DI Tom Thorne is contacted by a woman, Anna Carpenter. Anna is making a living (and hating it) by working for a detective agency that cynically uses her as a ‘pretend prostitute’ to trap men into sexually compromising set-ups in divorce cases. Anna is on the side of the worried Donna Langford, and asks a reluctant Thorne for help. The detective is not to be persuaded – until he realises that the supposedly late Alan Langford is very much alive, and wants payback – in the worst way.

Another brilliant, thrilling & gripping read in the Tom Thorne series. There's some real cliffhangers that left me gasping & events that did not go at all as I expected (or hoped in one case that left me quite shocked)......trust me, once you pick this book up you won't be able to put it down :o)

This gets a 9! It could've had a 10, but I deducted a point for the "Yorkshiremen / whippets" comment.
I deducted another point for the "A" list! wow, so many names beginning with A: Andrea, Anna, Adam, Alan, Annie and Andy, Alison, Frank Anderson; in addition to a couple of famous ones, Alison Krauss and Al Capone! By half way through, I'd got my head around them all, to read a wonderfully gripping story that I couldn't put down: as usual I was reading all through 2 nights.
I would have preferred Andrea to have been paid a vast sum of money by Langford for her passport, and another vast sum of money to disappear, just to tie in a bit better. But what do I know!!
Fantastic (thanks Plum-crazy).x

Oh, by the way - I reinstated the "Yorkshiremen / whippets" point because Thorne redeemed himself later.
