The Sandman, Season of Mists, Volume Four
12 journalers for this copy...
"Better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven" - well, Lord Lucifer himself disagrees. He's sick of taking care of petty demons and demanding beasts, tired of taking the blame for everything that goes wrong with the world. So, he quits, closes down hell, hands over the key for the gates and starts a new life.
This is one of my favourites and it kind of is the reason why this spiral is happening. About a year ago I read "Good Omens", a truly fantastic novel by Gaiman and Pratchet and it somehow reminded me a lot of "Season of Mists" and that's how the idea for the spiral was born. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Please keep the books for a maximum of three weeks. They are all graphic novels and don't take that long to read. If you are too busy once it is your turn please PM me and I will move you further to the end. I cannot do this too often though as that would mess up the spiral system.
- I'm afraid I will have to cancel the spiral though if one book gets lost. I can afford to replace one book but don't want to pay for more.

Finally yesterday in the evening I have got Sandman Volume Four from my personal postman :-)
Thanx a lot, LilyKlip, for this wonderful bookring!!
28. August 2011
Even The Lord of Dreams is not without fail. And so he has to admit, it has been a mistake to damn a young woman into hell, who rejected to stay with him to all eternity. So he sets of to hell to unchain and to release her, being prepared that it will be a quite difficult problem. And thus it happended, but entirely different than he has imagined...
Great, a 'Sandman-book' again with a continuous story, which also refers to former books. It's exciting and the chronicle stimulates thinking about the existence of hell: How would it be without hell? What would be about heaven? And what about all the unfortunate souls?
It's a fantastic story with a surprising twist, which in my opinion slides a little bit too much towards Happy-End. Someway I have imagined the solution will be more dramatic. But maybe this depends on the other books I've read in the weeks before. Too many bloodthirsty thrillers :-)
The drawings are - like always - exceptional good, so you really sink into the atmosphere of this book. Great stuff!

Arrived today, thank you. Great timing, too, as I've just read Gaiman's short story "The Truth Is a Cave in the Black Mountains" and thought it would be nice to get the next volume of the Sandman series. :-)

Really enjoyed this volume, I think it's my favorite so far. I especially liked the bit where all kinds of different deities came to visit. The bit at the boarding school was really creepy :p. I wonder what will happen to Lucifer (the bits with him were quite funny actually), and who the missing sibling is..
Now on its way to Esme-Weatherwax.
Happy reading!

Off to Dublin. Sorry for the delay in posting last week was very busy then the internet was down for 2 days. Anyway I put the book in a different plastic bag for the one it came in had seen better days and with the weather we have been having I thought it would be less risking putting it in a new bag. Hope you enjoy!

This book was read by my husband, his brother and myself.
My Review: So far I liked this volume the best out of the series. I enjoyed the meeting of the endless I hope we get to know more about them in later volumes and I wonder who the missing brother is. Spoiler: I also really enjoyed the parts with all the different gods who wanted to get hell from the Sandman. I am interested in seeing where the boarding school chapter will lead. I am enjoying this series and I will more than likely start getting them to own.
Husband's Review: Visually it is the best in the series so far and the plot and dialogue is particularly good.It also has a touch of American Gods.Great graphic novel, terrible introduction.

I found this book slightly frustrating, or to be more accruate I became annoyed that book three seemed to be a filler book and the story from book 2 continued in this one.
I enjoyed the different view about the purpose of Hell.
LilyKlip asked me to keep this over the Christmas/New Year period so it didn't get lost in the overburdened postal service.

I loved this enstallment - it really begins to pick up on earlier threads and adds depth to the story. I agree with Esme-Weatherwax in that there is an American Gods feel to it. I love the down to earth Human characteristics that the Gods have; it makes the realms of Hell and the Dreaming all the more strange.
My particular favourite was the boarding school episode. It was a great ghost story.

Interesting.
I'm enjoying reading these books, although I have to confess there's an element of duty to it ("I really ought to read The Sandman"). There were some nice moments in this volume, particularly in the artwork.
Thanks, LilyKlip.

Gobbled this up in a couple of big greedy bites :) I liked meeting more of Dream's familiy (Desire reminds me of David Bowie, which I suppose is rather the point since I heart Bowie) , and the various people who came to try to trade, with all their motives and methods
I, (unlike esme-weatherwax's husband), really enjoyed the introduction, Harlen Ellison is so funny and dark, perfect for this series. But I know his writing style is far from everyone's taste :)

I didn't enjoy this one as much as I have enjoyed the previous books, although there were many entertaining points in it! I liked the creepy school chapter and also all those gods and other characters trying to convince Dream to give them the key but somehow the end was a bit boring and too much a happy end. Of course, what can you get in a situation like that. I would have liked to see what Hell would have been with different gods in charge, maybe Dream could have rented it? :) Anyway, I already have vedranasters address so this one will continue its journey soon!

Arrived, safe and sound, to sunny Croatia! :)
I'm currently reading The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo as part of a bookray spiral, but as I usually read that one before going to bed when things quiet down, and seeing how this is not really a book, I suspect I'll gobble this one up greedily some time in the next few days, during breaks from my work. Nom nom nom! ;)

I liked this one slightly more than the previous ones, perhaps because the story flowed a bit more slowly and coherently. I'm still having a bit of trouble keeping track of who's who in Dream's family, partly because they keep being drawn ever so slightly different each time they appear, and partly because we're reading this as a spiral so I forget who's who from one volume to the next. :)
I think I might come back to this series one day again, with all volumes in front of me.
The stories are definitely complex enough to warrant more than one reading.
