This is part of the Inspector Van Veeteren series set in Sweden, and deals with the case of young girl who goes missing from asummer camp. She is found raped and murdered, and Van Veeteren must use all his experience and intuitive power to solve the case. Try this and you will want to read others in the series.

I went looking for this last week but it wasn't to be found on the bookshelf. It's quite possible that someone took it, read it and returned it again. Thanks to a tip off today from bookvole I was able to visit the OBCZ and find it. Thanks for the text!

Written in 1997, this is the fifth in the Van Veeteren series and as with Borkmann's Point this was also translated by Laurie Thompson. Since I enjoyed that translation I can't blame the translator here, but both the narrative and dialogue felt a bit disjoined at times. I enjoyed the story and am not put off reading more by Nesser. I liked the contemplative side of Van Veeteren and I do wonder has he actually followed through on his final action?
