The cover calls this book the 'Swedish Gone with the Wind'.
A very enjoyable read that goes through the history of Gösta Berling a defrocked minister who becomes a cavalier and is entangled in all kind of romance. Very good read, that has lots of side tracks highlighting Swedish folk tales and describes beautifully local scenery and human minds.
Lagerlöf as a Nobel Price Winner is thus more than just Nils Holgerson!
