Journal Entry 1 by disneyfreaksam from Warminster, Wiltshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, June 22, 2011
Lying in the bath in his new apartment, Arthur, a young architect, is understandably surprised when he hears fingers clicking to the sound of the music from his radio. Tracing the noise to a closet, he finds an attractive young woman hiding, and, assuming she is part of a practical joke, asks her to leave. But Lauren, stunned to discover that Arthur can see her, reveals the extraordinary truth. Six months earlier she was in a car crash; her body now lies in a coma. Initially sceptical, Lauren finally proves to Arthur that what she has said is true. But when the doctors decide to turn off the machines keeping Lauren alive, Arthur must find a way to save her. For it is only her love that can save him...

I finished it as I like to finish a book once I start it.

I feel that this should be marketed as a teenage fiction book. The characters were likeable but so thin and transparent. All feelings, thoughts etc seemed rushed.

'Found' this book in my mailbox yesterday. Thank you so much, disneyfreaksam, for granting one of the wishes on my list!

I once put this book on my wishlist, probably read about it somewhere. Reading the blurb, the storyline sounded familiar. This book has been filmed as 'just like heaven', which is how I knew the story.

The book has quite a different and better storyline, but the main plot is the same. The book is a nice in-between story, but as disneyfreaksam already mentioned there is not a whole lot of character development. The story is about the plot, not really the characters.

The main male character, Arthur, and the writer are architects. As I have studied building engineering with a bit of architecture, I liked the references to the profession and the passion Arthur has for it. It is not apparent in much more than a paragraph, though. Come thinking of it, this is probably why this book ever landed on my wishlist. Mystery solved!

Mee naar de jaarlijkse meeting.

Journal Entry 7 by bookguide at Castricum, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Sunday, July 1, 2012
Taken from the book table during the sunny and windy meeting at Strand10 in Castricum. I bought this book in Dutch a couple of years ago, simply because it was very cheap (what a cheapskate!), but hadn't got round to reading it yet, even though a couple of my friends were very enthusiastic about it. I assumed it was originally written in English, which is why I picked it up at the meeting, but now realise that both are translations from French. I now have a dilemma; whether to read the book in Dutch or English, and which to release elswhere. Decisions, decisions!

What if a sensitive man moved into the apartment of a beautiful young doctor who was lying in a coma in a nearby hospital? What if her spirit could reach him and they could fall in love, physically as well as spiritually (because that makes a better film)? What if the man also has a stand-up routine with his best friend which will add a note of comedy to the film? What if our hero is the only one who could save our heroine, even if he has to break the law? What if there is a comedy cop duo, one of whom is on the brink of retirement (naturellement), who might risk his reputation to help our heroic couple? What if the happy couple could teach each other philosophical life lessons which would make all our lives better and bring a tear to the eye and a lump to the throat of every filmgoer? Why, then Hollywood would cast Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo as the happy couple and rake in the dollars, of course! I didn't see the film, but I'd watch it if it was on television. The book, on the other hand, could easily be skipped for something better-written with more substance.
