A duplicate copy I had on my shelf, bought when Ravenous Reader, my favorite local Indie BookStore, closed its doors in May. I'll be reading my other copy soon and passing it on to my sister-in-law, Heather.

I like the recipe of magic, love, and cooking that Sarah Addison Allen seems to stir into all her books. I read somewhere that sometimes the most enchanting bits (like the tree in Garden Spells or the power of cakes in this book, were not originally planned in the story, but wrote themselves in.

This book was lovely to read. Though perhaps not my favorite of the author's works, it still had some absolutely enchanting moments and some real surprises. For starters, I had the girl of the title pegged as the wrong girl from the start of the book. Even with that "reveal", I'm still not sure I was wrong, entirely. After all, more than one girl in the world has probably chased it.

I'll be taking this with me to give to one of the most magical girls in my life, my dear sister-in-heart, who I'll be seeing tomorrow for the first time in 2.5 years, back when our lives were oh so different. She's an Allen fan, too. There'll be laughter, tears, and more laughter, plus a lotta hugs, I'm sure.

Took this with me to the first meetup of 2012 at Local Coffee, West Ashely this afternoon, but the shelf was full, so took it home with me to release elsewhere.
