8 out of 10

This book seemed to be more about the Meredith children than Anne and Gilbert's children. That bothered me at times, but the Merediths are a fun bunch. There seemed to be quite a bit of foreshadowing about the coming War. I'm almost fearful to read the next book.

From the back cover:
Anne's wonderful, lively children found a special place all their own. Rainbow Valley was the perfect spot to play, to dream and to make the most unusual friends, like the Merediths. They were two girls and two boys who had no mother. What they did have was a minister father who was looking for a wife but so far had found nothing but heartbreak. Between the minister courting a young spinster and the escapades of the restless children, the town was bubbling with scandal. But in the end, the warmth and laughter of Anne of Green Gables taught all an unforgettable lesson of love.

kafka "rescued" this book on BookRelay but decided against actually taking the book. I offered it on the wish list forum as a RABCK and sent this one off to thechinasourcer, the home of two of my other Anne books. Enjoy!

I couldn't believe I had not read this when I read the "Anne" books as a child. Sadly I must have turned sour with age as I did not enjoy this as much as I remember enjoying the other books, finding it predictable and too "sweet".
