Knowledge of Angels

Easy reading but very thought provoking
I could not put this book down when I read it - it is beautifully written and a very engaging story, cleverly character driven plot with some big issues at it's heart.
It's a philosophical novel set on non-specific Mediterranean island in medieval times, a fable about tolerance, and its conflict with moral certainty.
I first came across this book because I'm a big fan of comedian Tim Minchin, and he mentioned it as one of his favourites :)

I absolutely loved this book. I was totally absorbed in the story and the philosophical arguement.
I want to read more from Jill Paton Walsh!

Thank you so much for this book - it arrived safely today. Perfect timing - I'm off work today, so should get time to start this book today. The story sounds good.
I'm delighted to receive a Booker prize title, which sounds as if it might be a good read.

Another excellent book from a fellow Book Crosser! This was a really absorbing book and a really unusual story. It details the arrival on an unnamed medditerranean island about 1450 AD, of two stangers, a heretic and a young girl. Both strangers change the islanders forever.
I am sending this on to the next person in the book ring, lauraloo89, in Canada.

It took 99 days but the book finally made it to South Africa. Thanks for sending it on, madpocky! It's still in a very good condition and ready for more. Thanks for registering the book and hosting the ring, Vekiki.
I'm busy with a book (aren't we all?) and have one other bookray book to finish before I'll get to this one.

This is a thought-provoking tale of tolerance and inclusivity, and so valid in today's world. As the author says in her introductory note:
(The story) is set on an island somewhat like Mallorca, but not Mallorca, at a time somewhat like 1450, but not 1450. A fiction is always, however obliquely, about the time and place in which it was written. I found it a gripping read from beginning to end. Thanks, Vekiki; it's not a book I normally would have selected based on cover and title.
