CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
ButtesChaumont#3: Interesting writing... but not interesting subject, as far as I can tell.
chawoso#4: I have a strong suspicion about this one, in any case not my type.
chawoso#5: Set in USA. Can’t tell much, doesn’t catch my attention.
Deepswamp#3: This feels like the middle of the book. Interesting but a bit confusing.
Disneyfreaksam#1: I like that it’s set in Scotland, but it begins with ending a relationship and that doesn’t really interest me.
trik#10: This looks interesting, these are probably journalists but I can’t figure anything else.
elstaplador#3: Now, that writing caught my attention. And the image of the stone in the shoe is a familiar one.
elstaplador#4: I like it, it’s very nicely written.
karneol#1: I know which book this is. I haven’t read it and it seems like fun, but I’d rather go for a surprise.
karneol#4: I know the protagonist, I’ve read the first of the series and really liked it. The rest can wait for now.
saskiasosmile#3: The year of the setting is enough to intrigue me.
bluezwuzl#1: I’ve read that one, it’s a great book and I highly recommend it.
bluezwuzl#5: Could be interesting, I would expect crime and action here.
LadyAmalie#3: Contemporary setting, doesn’t catch my attention.
Lilyklip#2: Of course I know what this is. I’ve loved this author since I was very young.
Lilyklip#3: This seems like fantasy in a modern setting. But I prefer it when information unfolds more smoothly.
Booksnbeer#1: Oh my, vampires, straight to the point. Not for me.
Ronya#2: The London setting is a treat, but I can’t tell anything else here.
mysteriousmummy#3: I recently finished a book much of which was set in China during the same period, and I really like it. I’ll probably add it here... and make them two.
mysteriousmummy#4: Something dark, I guess, I’m not so eager to find out.
Boekentrol#1: I like how it starts about a violin, but overall it doesn’t win me over.
Tsjara#1: I can guess what that is and I haven’t read it. Again, I’d rather go for a surprise.
Tsjara#2: It gives a lot of clues about the situation and doesn’t feel very pleasant.
Wal-89#1: Not my type.
Wal-89#2: Feels quite unconventional, which is good, but I don’t like reading about psychiatrists.
Wal-89#3: The subject doesn’t catch my attention.
Wal-89#4: Same here.
mysteriousmummy#1: I’ve read than one, still a childhood favorite. This is page 34 and gives you almost no clue –quite misleading!
mysteriousmummy#2: Unpleasant family situation, through the eyes of a child. Not interested.
mysterioumummy#5: Doesn’t catch my attention.
mysteriousmummy#6: I have some clues about the time setting. Overall it feels a bit confusing.
My choices are: elstaplador#3, elstaplador#4 and saskiasosmile#3. I've already contacted the owners, added in Merolia #1, #2, #3 and #4 and I have the address from the next participant. I'll have it sent in the next few days.
EDIT 4.5.2014: saskiasosmile#3 arrived, it's "Shileds of pride" by Elizabeth Chadwick (http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/10309559). Looking good!
EDIT 9.5.2014: the other two arrived as well! elstaplador #3 is "Hotel World" by Ali Smith (http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/11768911) and elstaplador #4 is "The weather in the streets" by Rosamond Lehmann (http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/11768914).
It's funny how, after avoiding every excerpt that felt like romance to me, I ended up with two of them anyway, even if one is set in the Middle Ages. Who knows, maybe these two will be a nice surprise! And I've been wanting to read something by Ali Smith for a long time. Thank you very much saskiasosmile and elstaplador!
Will let you all know more, once I read the excerpts through...
There are nice goodies and bookmarks in the envelope, I will take some out and add others :-)
I would love to be in the next round, too!
I have read the pages, thought about which books to read and decided as follows:
Chawoso #5 didn't attract my curiousity
Deepswamp #3 also couldn't make me want to read more...
Disneyfreaksam #1 I already know, it sounds familiar to me
Trik #10 journalists are not my cup of tea
Karneol #4 I also already know
Merolia #1 I read 2 months ago and enjoyed it
Bluewuzl #1 sounds a little like 'Glenkill' - I would choose it in the next round, I think
Bluewuzl #5 sounds interesting... Meybe next time
Merolia #3 too short sentences for me
Merolia #4 not interested
LadyAmalie #3 not now
LilyKlip #2 I already read some years ago and liked it
Lilyklip #3 could be interesting, but not now
Booksnbeer #1 'church of eternal life' simply made me decide against
Ronya #2 not for me, not for now
Mysteriousmummy # 1-6 I did not choose
Boekentrol #1 couldn't attract me
Tsjara #1 Lolita... Not for me, thanks
Tsjara #2 sounds like a story about cancer or similar illness
Wal-89 numbers 1-3 I didn't want to read
The ones that interest me:
Wal-89 #4: first sentence gave the 'wow" and decided
Karneol #1: I just read the first book and want to read more...
Merolia #2: "we are the same but opposite" sounds familiar and I want to know what happens to LuLing Liu Young. Is the story in China, in the US, in Singapore? Curious!
ButtesChaumont #3: want to knwo whether the story is in Sweden or in Africa and what is dream, what is reality...
Chawoso #4: diary sounds funny

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Enjoy! I really did!
Edit 9 June 2014: I finally made may choice.
These excerpts will continue to travel:
chawoso #5: This one was on my shortlist, but then I decided otherwise.
Deepswamp #3: Sounds like a historic novel and that's not my cup of tea.
karneol #4: I already read the whole series in German (and I recommend it).
disneyfreaksam #1: Sounds not bad to me, but it might not be very special either.
bluewuzl #1: Sounds somehow interesting and a little bit crazy. It was on my shortlist.
bluewuzl #5: This one didn't attract my attention.
Merolia #3: Sounds not bad, but might be a complicated and maybe depressing story.
Merolia #4: Seems to be an older or historic story and therefore it didn't attract me.
LadyAmalie #3: Not bad, but I don't have necessarily to continue.
LilyKlip #2: This might be an historic novel which I don't like.
LilyKlip #3: Sounds not bad, but I decided otherwise.
Boekentrol #1: I don't like the writing style of this one.
BooksnBeer #1: The vampire made me decide against.
Tsjara #1: Not too difficult to devine which book that is. I think I wouldn't have liked the story, but the book was on my shortlist, because I definitely liked the writing style.
Tsjara #2: Could be interesting, but also depressing. Finally, I decided against.
wal-89 #1: Hardly took that one which somehow sounds crazy.
wal-89 #2: I already read it in German.
wal-89 #3: Sounds not bad, but not like a must-read either.
mysteriousmummy #1: Sounds like a kind of Harry Potter. It somehow attracts my attention, also because of the photo, but finally I decided for other books.
mysteriousmummy #2: Sounds not bad and I like to read dialogues, but there were other excerpts I liked better.
mysteriousmummy #3: Sounds again like a historic novel which I don't really like.
mysteriousmummy #4: Not bad, but could be a bit depressing.
mysteriousmummy #5: I like cats, but somehow this story didn't catch me.
mysteriousmummy #6: A story playing in the past and therefore not my taste.
Samingo #1: The fireman couldn't make me want to read more.
Samingo #2: Sounds not bad, but I don't have absolutely to continue with.
Samingo #4: I like the writing style, but finally decided otherwise.
Samingo #5: The story didn't catch me and I don't really like the writing style.
I decided for the following books:
trik #10: The mention of a Great Ape Language Lab attracted my attention.
Merolia #1: This sounded definitely interesting to me at once.
Samingo #3: Sounds somehow crazy and I definitely like to know what this story about an Arab sheikh and an iceberg is about.
Ronya #2: Sounds not bad, is easy to read and a story playing in London/Britain.
Four other excerpts from me will now travel with the Xerpting.
I took some goodies out and added other ones. The Xerpting will continue to travel as soon as I received the next address. Thank you very much for this great idea! I think, I would like to take part in another round, but not too soon. Let's first see, what the books I will receive are about ... ;-)
Edit: 16 June 2014
Samingo #3 arrived: Giles Foden: Turbulence
The story about an Arab sheikh and an iceberg reveals to be a story about the D-Day landings and the weather. I think, I had never chosen this book due to its cover or the description of the story, so I'm curious how I will like it.
Edit: 24 June 2014
Merolia #1 arrived: S. J. Watson: Before I go to sleep
I like thrillers and already heard about this one. Considering the journal entries made so far, it seems to be a good book. I'm looking forward to read it.
YogiSchoko #1 travelled to Charly83.
Edit: 5 July 2014
Ronya #2 arrived: Emylia Hall: The Book of Summers
Seems to be not the kind of genre I generally prefer, but from time to time I like reading a story like that.
Edit: 8 July 2014
YogiSchoko #4 travelled to LilyKlip.
Edit: 2 August 2014
trik #10 arrived: Edit: Sara Gruen: Ape House
have a wonderful weekend everyone!

I have the next address and should be able to get this into the post soon.
all of you who still have excerpts in the envelope and are on the current list of participants should have received the following message which I am posting here and in the forum as well - just in case.
maybe you have noticed that the Xerpting got stuck in Canada. I am trying to collect all excerpts that were still traveling at this point and will then restart the game. Fortunately BooksnBeer who had the envelope before its disappearance made a detailed journal entry so it's easy to see which excerpts were still in.
Please send your excerpts to my email by 27 September: susann_huebner[at]yahoo.de
If you need more time please just contact me. In that case I would wait longer. Thank you!
Have a nice evening!
A big thank you to everyone who sent me their first pages!
I also used the opportunity to register this with a new BCID because that way the journal will be less chaotic. This is the link to the new Xerpting
Hope you continue to enjoy this. Anyone who would like to participate again please just contact me by PM.
