G.R. Owen is the last of Cardiff's old department stores. Times are hard and the ancient firm has gone into administration. But who are the Administrators? What goes on behind the shutters at night? And why are customers disappearing? Torchwood are already investigating; G.R. Owen is the site of their oldest unsolved cases, and Jack is determined to solve it before the store closes forever - which is why Ianto is working undercover in gentlemen's fashions and Gwen is in handbags. Are the new managers really aliens? What connection do they have to the mysterious G.R. Owen himself? And is Jack the only one looking for the Department of Curiosities, last seen in 1905? Written specially for audio by James Goss, "Department X" is set before the 'Children of Earth' TV story and features Captain Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones, as played by John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Gareth David-Lloyd in the hit series from BBC Television. It is read by Kai Owen, who plays Gwen's husband Rhys.
Comment (6/6/11): Captain Jack dies a bit to often for my taste, but otherwise it's a pretty good story, read excellently. I really liked Kai's voice and his Welsh accent (well, it is Welsh, isn't it?).
This one will be shared as an AudioBookRing with:
1) Schneefee
2) DieHenkerin
3) delfinnetti
4) calisson
5) RikkiDD
and then back home

I totally agree to toshokanin, totally. Although it's a bit unfair to send both audiobooks together - Department X can't win when compared to the Ghost Train directly, but it still is an excellent audiobook!
Already on its way to make DieHenkerin happy (I reused the lovely envelope)

Torchwood, hooray!!! :)
Glad I can listen to this story...
14.07.2011: This audiobook was far too short, but Jack died far too often...

Danke für den 'Teebeutelersatz', allerliebste Schneefee, es hat funktioniert. :))) *durchsWohnzimmerhüpf*

Weiter geht's zu delfinnetti...
This audiobook arrived today safe and sound. Theoraticaly there are two other audio-rings in front of these three Torchwood/Doctor Who stories... but theory - who cares ;-)
I´m sure I will listen to them this weekend and they will be over far to soon. Thanks for mailing the CDs and for making a ring of them!
Edit 31.07.2011:
I listened to this audiobook today on a 3 hour drive. A nice Torchwood-story but not one of the best. It was ok, but not nearly as funny and suspensefull as "Ghost Train". The thought of Ianto as a sales assistant in a clothes department is attractive! Even though they propably would have to clear out the whole department when Jack comes to visit ;-)

These two Torchwood-audiobooks are on their way to the next participant. Thank you very much for making a ring of them! Have fun listening everybody.
angekommen, ich bin so gespannt!
14.02.12:
hat sich endlich auf den Weg gemacht. Die Verzögerung tut mir leid.

This department store came as a passenger on the Gost train to Dresden. But were are all the costumers? Must have gone lost or ..?
No, I won't tell you the mystery - enough was said before.
I loved this story, the way of reading and of course the accent - a pretty Welsh one.
Thanks that I could be part of the ring (- are there more Torchwood stories at your places?)
