Beautiful, wonderful short story anthology by the amazing and fantastic Neil Gaiman!! Can you tell I love this book and author ??
:)
:)
I gave this book to rureading at Coffee Cats. It`s a great set of short stories and I hope she enjoys it :)
Giving ol' Neil another try after creepy Coraline.... :) Thanks again, Minerva101.
I really enjoyed the first story 'A Study in Emerald'; about the early days of Holmes & Watson - with a twist. And I continued on through the progressively odder and unpleasant stories.
I have a copy of Gaiman's 'American Gods' on Mt. TBR and it may moulder there for quite awhile after this disappointment.

Took the book to the Calgary BC Meetup at the Joshua Tree Cafe today.
Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing June meet-up. Yay, Neil Gaiman!
My familiarity with Neil Gaiman isn't that broad. Before this, the only thing that I had read was Coraline. I watched Neverwhere but didn't read the book (and then there's his Doctor Who episode but I don't think that counts). I really must read more of his books. The poetry stuff was strange though; I don't associate Neil Gaiman with poerty. My favourite story in the book is definitely "A Study in Emerald". At first you think it's just a Sherlock Holmes story set in the Lovecraft-ian universe, but then it has that great twist at the end.

Picked up at the July Calgary Bookcrossing Meeting.
"The Study in Emerald" was AMAZING! I read it twice! The stories definitely leaned towards the creepy side, but I liked that, and I think that's just Gaiman writing. I've already read American Gods, so I enjoyed "The Monarch in the Glen", but I don't know how much sense it would make if you don't know the prior story. "Forbidden Brides..." was absolutely hilarious. And "The Day the Saucers" came was very sweet.
Taken back to the Calgary Bookcrossing Meeting.

Short story collections are always hard to rate. There were some stories that just didn't click with me, but there are enough gems here to recommend.
The stories that stuck with me are:
How Do You Think It Feels?
Feeders and Eaters
Goliath
How to Talk to Girls at Parties
The Monarch of the Glen

I mean its Neil Gaiman... does more need to be said?
Released into the first book box we have circulating.
Pulled this out of the Travelling Covid Book Box.
I didn't enjoy this as much as some short story books. This could be as some of them left me wondering ......WHAT???? Just felt puzzled at the end. Probably my brain issue. The ones that I liked (like all the rest the Emerald was a favorite) were great reads.
Well, I have had to pick a few of my read books to add to this Covid book box.
Love this author, looking forward to reading these.
