Excellent book - I always enjoy Arthur Slade. I learned a lot about the battles fought against the Turks that I did not know. Very touching book....
Fueled by anger at the death of his two brothers in World War I, 16-year-old Edward abandons his ailing father on their farm and leaves Canada to enlist. After proving that he can tame any wild horse, he's is sent to Jordan to fight with the Cavalry.
Luckily, his horse is the extraordinary Buke; in battle, a trooper's horse is the key to life and death, and his true companion. In the harsh desert, Edward is grateful for the camaraderie of his tent mates, Cheevers and Blackburn, and letters from Emily, a nurse he met at base camp. As they close in on the enemy Edward finds that the glory and noble vengeance he seeks is replaced by the horror of war and the realization that he must fight not only to survive, but also, to kill.
"From the Hardcover edition."

Bringing to the Bookcrossing meeting at the Joshua Tree Cafe. Great Canadian author! This book needs to be read by another bookcrosser before the Canada Day release.
Had trouble getting into this book and then periodically it would lose me again. Liked the take on the war from a very personal perspective.
Taking to Joshua Cafe tomorrow for August meeting to pass on.
Picked up at the August meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers at the Joshua Tree Café.
Thanks a ton!

I tried to get into this book, but after a couple attempts I decided I'd read too many war stories recently.
Have held onto it for too long, so will bring it to the April meet-up.

Releasing at the April Meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers at the Joshua Tree Café.
I have enjoyed previous reads by Arthur Slade so I'm curious to read this story set circa 1918.
I enjoyed this tale of a young boy from Saskatchewan running off to join the war effort. I liked seeing the war through Edward's young point of view but I felt the ending was rushed and too complete; too many events and emotions neatly tied up.
Taken to the Calgary BC Meetup at the Joshua Tree Cafe today.
Picked up at the get together
This book wasn't quite what I was expecting. It was a very serious story, and I thought it was very well done. I quite enjoyed the story and the different journeys that the main character experienced.
Thanks for the interesting read.

Taken to get together
This was picked up at November's "Everyone has a story" themed meeting and is being added to my giant TBR pile. Thanks to the 14 people who came today, our meetings are getting BIG which mean lots of fantastic books to choose from!
Are you in the Calgary area and interested in meeting up with other Calgary BookCrossers? Please check out our facebook group, "BookCrossing Calgary" for details on how. Meeting are held on the second Saturday of every month starting at 11am. Location is unknown, please PM me for information. New Crossers are always welcome.
It was very neat to read about the war outside of England, I knew the war was happening all around the world but I hadn't really learned much about it. Tough to read, no one should have to experience war and it is sad that so many did.

Returning to Calgary BookCrossing group
Got these from a BookCrosser to return to circulation. I am sorting the books and either passing directly to a Calgary member who has requested it or returning it to the person who introduced it to the group. Hopefully this one will find a new reader soon!
