This book came to me in a box from my brother-in-law, and has been waiting for me to get "a round tuit.' From the cover art, I've been thinking it was in the Crystal Singer series. What a surprise I got.
Not only is it not, it does belong to a new series I hadn't even heard about, that takes pace on Petaybee, a sentient planet. Likable characters, interesting premise, a couple of little twists~~a fun light SF read.

And this sentient planet is about to travel in the SF Only Bookbox , round two.
Loved Anne McCaffery when I was starting to read Scifi as a teen. Fun read and great intro to the genre. My fav of this type of series of hers was the Crystal Singer series, wish she would have written more of those. Looking forward to seeing its adventures as it travels.
And it's back again. With the addition of a couple of Tootsie Pop wrappers folded over inside~~~LOL~~ bookmarks???
Since this returned in an SF box, I'm going to send it back out in emmejo's Otherworldy Bookbox.. I think it's a great fit for the box, and I loved it, so I hope it finds a new reader who will also enjoy reading it!
This book enjoyed a brief stop in San Jose, CA before continuing its journey in the Otherworldly Bookbox!
This book came home with The Otherworldly Bookbox.
When the inhabitants of Petaybee finally get representatives of the Corp to come inspect the planet and see that it is a self-aware lifeform that should get a say in operations on its surface, chaos quickly ensues. Some are open to learning the truth, others are set on proving that it is nothing but a rock and that the natives are lying to hurt the Corp, with fatal consequences.
I read this back to back with the first one and my was much the same as my other review, found here: http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/12003457/ I liked getting more world-building here, seeing other settlements and getting a picture of life for the animals of the planet. The villains were a little too overblown for my taste, even on the space frontier it seems like they would be a little more circumspect about their actions.
