10 out of 10

I found this book utterly charming and a pure joy to read. After her increasingly unstable mother is violently killed, CeeCee moves down to Savannah, Georgia to live with her great aunt. Like CeeCee, we're introduced to the charming and very hospitable Aunt Tootie, the brash black cook Odetta, the flamboyant neighbor Miss Goodpepper, the racist and pretentious Miss Hobbs, the kind and wise Mrs. Odell, and a full spectrum of other colorful female characters. Beth Hoffman has an uncanny ability to make me, as a reader, feel as if I've actually been to Savannah and met its people. The book is as hilarious as it is heart-warming, and I heartily recommend it.
