I'm totally guilty of enjoying YA paranormal fiction. I liked this one - cool that it is not a romance like Twilight - more of an action/adventure with paranormal protagonists. My teen kids enjoyed this one, too.
Product Description
After years of frequent moves following her mother’s death, Chloe Saunders’s life is finally settling down. She is attending art school, pursuing her dreams of becoming a director, making friends, meeting boys. Her biggest concern is that she’s not developing as fast as her friends are. But when puberty does hit, it brings more than hormone surges. Chloe starts seeing ghosts–everywhere, demanding her attention. After she suffers a breakdown, her devoted aunt Lauren gets her into a highly recommended group home.
At first, Lyle House seems a pretty okay place, except for Chloe’s small problem of fearing she might be facing a lifetime of mental illness. But as she gradually gets to know the other kids at the home–charming Simon and his ominous, unsmiling brother Derek, obnoxious Tori, and Rae, who has a “thing” for fire–Chloe begins to realize that there is something that binds them all together, and it isn’t your usual “problem kid” behaviour. And together they discover that Lyle House is not your usual group home either…

Picked this up at December's meeting, adding it to my TBR mountain. I certainly have lots of holiday reading to do.
What, the book ended, nooooo!!!! Figures I am really enjoying the book and then it just went and ended on me. I guess I am going to need to get my hands on the sequel so that I know what happens next. Thanks Minerva101 for sharing this, it was an interesting look at so called mentally ill kids who are really not mentally ill. I'm looking forward to the next one.
I'm taking this to our January meet up where it will either go to a new reader or be returned to Minerva101.

~Picked up at January get together~
Read it. Loved it. Couldn't put it down. Squeed at the perfect cliffhanger ending~ Even in YA I heart Kelley Armstrong's writting style.
Thanks for an awesome read!!

Taken to get together
Picked up at the meeting today. Looking forward to it.
OK, it hardly took any time at all for me to get right into this book. Enjoyed the main character.
Taking to the May meeting at the Joshua Tree Cafe to either pass on or leave on the bookshelf.
Picked up at the May Calgary Book Crossing Meeting.
Really excellent creepy fiction. I liked the way it was couched in film-making plot terms, since the main character is an aspiring film-maker.
This is very clearly the first in the series and is a little heavy on the exposition at times and there's quite a few loose threads, but the characters were excellent and I'm looking forward to the next one.
Also, I love books with rough cut pages, they're just so tactile and lovely to hold.

Released at the June Short Story Calgary Bookcrossing Meeting.
Picked up at the June meetup.
I'd been looking at the book for a while and it didn't disappoint! Some really creepy scenes and a surprising twist ending and I'm interested in reading the rest of the series.

Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing July meet-up. I didn't enjoy the other Kelley Armstrong book I read, but I've been assured this series is much better, so I'm giving it a try.
This book was okay, but I didn't think it was awesome. Actually, I found it to be kind of boring at times. So much of the book is just exposition and laying things out. I suppose, as the first book in the series, it needs to do that, but I just wish there wasn't so much of it. And the end just ends; it felt like Armstrong just stopped writing. I get there are more books in the series, but you can head into the next book without such an abrupt stop.
I'd read the next book just to see if things pick up. There are interesting threads that were introduced and it'd be neat to see where they go.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Releasing this book at the Calgary BookCrossing September meet-up. If it didn't go home with someone, it's on the bookshelf.
Did not really enjoy this book so much. It was really slow at first and then it got a bit better but overall not a fan. I will be taking this back to Joshua Tree Cafe along with the other books in the series.
picked up at BC meeting
Finished this with mixed feelings. Some places are really slow and other are quite enjoyable. Overall a nice read. One complaint similar to what the others wrote. This trilogy is actually one book, there is no end/start between the books, so this should be read all in one go -otherwise the story just seems to be cut off at half a word.
bringing to BC meeting
Picked up at today's Calgary bookcrossing meetup. I won't be able to read this until May so it won't make it back for a little while.
Looking forward to the read.

Oh my goodness... I DEVOURED this book in a night. Had to force myself to go to sleep and not grab the next book in the pile.
Looking forward to the next book in this trilogy. When I finish the trilogy, I'll bring it to the next Calgary bookcrossing meeting to hand off as a set.

I picked up this book at today's meetup, and I'm journaling it for my daughter. It does look interesting...
I loved the plot of this book! It just drew me in and I finished it within a few hours, believe it or not. The way a normal story can morph into a magical and danger-filled adventure is displayed very well in this book. I can agree with lots of people on this, if you like 'Twilight', then you'll adore this!

I love this book!!!! I'm a slow reader, so it took me a while to finish it. It's the first of three books. Love love love it!

Returned from JH. TBR
I love this author, and really enjoyed her other YA trilogy. I am enjoying this one as well, and will read books 2 and 3. Unlike her adult fiction though, I find Kelly Armstrong's YA fiction to have less action, and less "oomph" - BUT they are books I would encourage my daughter to read when she is a teen, and I enjoy that they are appropriate for the intended age group.
Controlled release to local book crosser.
Caught via a handoff with another member. Great trilogy and easy read. Didn't know what a necromancer was, now I'm very schooled in the concept. Vivid imagery and thankful I wasn't watching this in movie form.
Releasing for next reader or RTO
