Bought a few days ago. 1001-book, TBR.

Not your average children's book. Easy to read, but sometimes a bit too moralist - it even ends with a "what have we learned from all this" chapter. On the other hand, it makes use of various historical, religious and scientific motifs, which I considered its strong point. Worth reading, but not the book to overwhelm me.

Note, however, that it raised serious issues in its time due to the recurrent theme of child labour abuse. And that its most disturbing facts are rendered in a unique, profound and redemptive way.
