The Black Dahlia

I had heard of the black dahlia murder but knew little of the case when I opened this book. The black dahlia was the nickname given to a woman whose body was found in 1940's Los Angeles cut in half and blood drained. the author wrote fiction based on this real story.
I loved the book in the beginning, the author did a great job with the characters and I was really into the story even though the black dahlia didn't make her entrance until about a quarter of the way through the book. After her murder was introduced I looked the story up online and got sucked into a wikipedia hole, clicking on link after link, most about serial killers. After that the story was hard for me to enjoy. Knowing that this happened to a real person is seriously scarey. The Black Dahlia, Elizabeth Short, was a young woman who went west and met a gruesome end. The reality overshadowed the fiction and I ended up enjoying the story less.
