amazon.de - Synopsis:
The Doctor's been everywhere and everywhen in the whole of the universe and seems to know all the answers. But ask him what happened to the Starship Brilliant and he hasn't the first idea. Did it fall into a sun or black hole? Was it shot down in the first moments of the galactic war? And what's this about a secret experimental drive? The Doctor is skittish. But if Martha is so keen to find out he’ll land the TARDIS on the Brilliant, a few days before it vanishes. Then they can see for themselves...Soon the Doctor learns the awful truth. And Martha learns that you need to be careful what you wish for. She certainly wasn’t hoping for mayhem, death, and badger-faced space pirates.Featuring the Doctor and Martha as played by David Tennant and Freema Agyeman in the hit series from BBC Television.

Freema Agyeman reads this gripping story of a lost ship, a time loop and dangerous pirates. The Doctor is skittish, but if Martha is so keen to find out he'll land the TARDIS on the Brilliant, a few days before it vanishes. Then they can see for themselves...Soon the Doctor learns the awful truth. And Martha learns that you need to be careful what you wish for. She certainly wasn't hoping for mayhem, death, and badger-faced space pirates. Featuring the Doctor and Martha as played by David Tennant and Freema Agyeman in the hit series from BBC Television.

well, my timeline below (from wikipedia) seems to be incorrect; TARDIS wiki says, the story is set between Wishing Well and Peacemaker. Could make sense, in the beginning Martha refers to an execution right 10 Minutes ago when the doctor told her about the spaceship to distract her.
Actually, I was fine without knowing Wishing Well, you really don't need it to understand this novel.

I'm not sure about this one. I can't say I dislike it, but it wasn't my favourite either.
On the one hand, the plot is too simple and childish (badger-pirates, being friends with the crew on the bridge right after sharing some canapees etc.) on the other hand, there's a lot of shooting and dying. So, for my taste, it's not cheery enough to be a funny story and not gloomy enough to be a dark story, and furthermore, I disliked all that "3 hours earlier"-parts.
But as always I liked Freema Agyeman ;-)

I admit, I didn't know what a Mandelbrot Set(t) is, and I instantly thought of nothing else than sweeties - the badgers use to eat reground dirt, so why not naming their ship after some delicious cake? I wondered a bit about the German name, then, but not very much, and I was a little bit surprised when I found M. Mandelbrot on Wikipedia...

This will be my last doctor for a little while since I have to do some maintenance on my bagpipes first (Competition season's starting) and get my car repaired (it's 7 weeks now, it really sucks!), but the Doctor will be back. Until then, I add a little extra, I hope you'll enjoy it.

It was a bit crowded today in my letterbox. TARDIS materialized there and an extra CD with over 14 ! hours Dr. Who. I really need an expandable letterbox.

I'm not sure what I should think about this story.
I like the way Freema Agyeman reads but the plot isn't as thrilling as the others I could listen to. Everything was so predictable and sequences were repeated constantly.
Nevertheless, it was nice to listen to but there are other stories I liked more.

I have the same thoughts about this one as the listeners beforme me. Oddly childish and violent at the same time. Overall I still liked the story, but the excessive number of deaths really annoyed me.

As the next part of my DW-Book-Spiral will probably soon be due, I think I send this one and the extra economically in the same envelope to Die Henkerin ;-)

And, yes of course, the extra :-) Thanks a lot but I already know it. And like it!

This audiobook arrived today safe and sound. Theoraticaly there are two other audio-rings in front of these three Torchwood/Doctor Who stories... but theory - who cares ;-)
I´m sure I will listen to them this weekend and they will be over far to soon. Thanks for mailing the CDs and for making a ring of them!

Edit 31.07.2011:
I listend to this audiobook while writing 3 Postcards and eating supper.
Spoiler in white mark to read:
There was decidedly to many deaths, and I could not keep it straight with the coming back of everybody... But the end of the story was great. Everybody has to make that choice whether to stay or have the Doctor take them home... Would have been interesting to know who stayed and who went with the Doctor though - they could have added that! Aside from that the story was not that suspensefull or funny - not one of the best. But still a good audiobook to pass time and get back a bit into the Doctor - Universe ;-)

Before I repeat what most of the others have already said I want to share an amusing observation. I realized that Freema is for me even more convincing when she gives her voice to the Doctor. Her Martha is spot on, how could it be otherwise? But her Doctor has the enthusiasm and the thoughtlessness that is perfect for Ten. Oh,and have I told you, that I love Freema Agyeman?

I have the next address, so it will travel on soon.

Hm, ganz nett; aber die badger-Piraten sind auch nicht die Hellsten... Aber ein sehr hübscher Twist da ganz am Ende. :)
