My friend gave me this book in Singapore when I was visiting. I believe she bought it in Japan while traveling. I brought it back to Indonesia and just finished reading it. I'm passing it on to another friend here to continue its travels.

It was filled with suspense, and with family dynamics and pathos. As many of us do, these characters muddle through their lives desperately trying to understand each other, to communicate, and to carve out space for their own needs. The ending has an interesting twist, leaving some things open to interpretation and imagination.

I liked the way that the author wrote each chapter from another character's viewpoint. Sometimes the characters seemed a bit inconsistent but always interesting. I think it would also have been interesting to have a chapter or two from the POV of the ex-husband or the prosecuting attorney, but perhaps that would have been too confusing.
