I really enjoyed this chap's descriptions of swimming in many and varied open waters around Britain - despite not even being able to have bubbles in my bath as I like to see what's in the water around me!

Wild swimming is not for me!! However it is for one (IMO) brave bookcrosser, so this is on its way to Gill.

I hope you pick up some tips!

Well with the swim only three days away the nerves are starting to peep through. I really enjoyed this book. I am hoping the River Thames will be as nice as he describes some of his swims!!!

Thank you barby-girl

Thank you! For the book and the very cool bag it came in!!!

(nach dem Lesen reserviert für Trinibell)

So, although this book has been with me for a year (which is long for a Bookcrossing book in my home), it does not mean I did not like it - I just somehow forgot about it. Once I was started, I could not put it down. Although I don´t know much of the landscape described, it´s still interesting, and just a great book. And yes, people say I´d hop in every puddle I´ll find and yes I carry some sort of swim wear in every bag from April to October...

Book arrived today in good shape, thanks!

I'm sorry but I quit "proper" reading after 2/3 or so of the book and only skimmed through the last 80-100 pages. Still I consider it a really good book. I appreciated many of the descriptions of the countryside and the creeks and rivers and coasts, but quite a lot of them are exhaustlingly long. To long for me, anyway.

Geht mit zum Meetup in Karlsruhe.

trinibell recommended this book and I think it might be really interesting, though I do not consider myself a swimming enthusiastic. But it reminded me of the books of German traveller/hiker/historian/writer Wolfgang Büscher who writes quite exciting books about fairly ordinary journeys. I'm really curious about this one, for it seems a really extraordinary approach to travel and writing.

In fact, a really really eccentric but enjoyable piece. It is closely related to books like the "Bicycle Diaries" of David Byrne, or "Deutschlandreise" by Wolfgang Büscher. I definitely could not do some swimming adventures like Deakin, being not such a well trained swimmer, but nevertheless I use opportunities for a dip now and then; in pools, lakes, rivers and oceans whererever I travel. And often, while practising cycling or running, I draw up an inventory of rides or runs I did somewhere around the world, recalling memoires, landscapes and emotions, and I started doing so when swimming in the local indoor pool since I'd started reading this book. This book (and following the author's intentions by behaving like him) is, I think, a recommendable contribution to a "slower" but more valuable live.

Well, although my shelf contains many English books and I didn't want to take another one it nevertheless found its way into my bag during the meetup in Karlsruhe. Now I'm looking forward to reading it.

This is a great book. I have never thought that you can swim through Britain in such an interesting way. I love swimming outside in lakes especially coming from cold air into warm water, but I haven't tried the other way round yet. Maybe I should?

This has been on my wishlist for some time so many thanks to chesswally for spotting this and offering it to me.

I haven't done wild swimming since I was a child but do fancy having a go - I'm sure this will inspire me, despite British waters being pretty cold. Better look for drysuits on ebay.
