The story of a college graduate sent as a punishment during the Cultural Revolution to the far north west of China. Here he falls in love with a local peasant woman, and as political conditions change begins to live with her, though finally she succumbs to the village party-leader.

7 out of 10

Not sure about this one. Some of it was really clever, insightful and moving.
Other parts of it, I dunno I think it must've been the translation, but they were a bit dull and in parts downright disjointed from the rest of the story. And on top of that, although cured of his impotence he still leaves the girl!
