WILD RELEASE NOTES:

UNSW Village

Journal Entry 3 by wingAnonymousFinderwing at Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Friday, August 12, 2011
Rarely have my late-night laundry habits been so fruitful; I found this in the laundy at Uni Village, UNSW, at two in the morning, so my thanks to HolyRoman.
I thoroughly enjoyed 'American Gods'. It was the first, and so far last, Neil Gaimon novel I have read, and my previous intentions to read something of his have only been strengthened.
I loved how rambling and personal the book was, and how organic the story seemed because of it: such a miss-match of cultures and idea. The very notion of transplanted gods is fascintating, and especially that they mean something different outside of their own country, brought home very strongly in the last chapter. The implications of the almost possessive title only occured to me after I had finished it and made the connection between it and the buffalo-headed figure of Shadow's dreams, the land, allowing the new gods on their own terms. The 'I-do-believe-in-fairies' approach to belief broke my heart just a little at the idea of gods failing for a lack of belief, which, coming from an athiest, probably shows how powerful the concept was and how well Gaiman managed to execute it.
I've posted it to a friend in Queanbeyan, NSW, and she has started reading it.
Regards, Emma.
