Journal Entry 1 by laevina from Denver, Colorado USA on Sunday, April 24, 2011
Yen Press | http://www.yenpress.com/bunny-drop/ ISBN: 978-0-7595-3120-8 224 pages 5.75″x 8.25″ As an impromptu dad to Rin, his late grandfather’s illegitimate child, Daikichi Kawachi has experienced his share of firsts while caring for his little aunt (?). Now it’s Daikichi’s turn to battle the initial wave of separation anxiety as Rin leaves the nest…for her first day of elementary school! Rin’s elementary school isn’t the only place with new faces, either. Daikichi’s office is also inundated with first-timers, some of whom have their eyes on their gangly new coworker! And while father and daughter are experiencing (coping with?) all these firsts left and right, the first anniversary of Gramps’s death also sneaks up on the pair… as does the first anniversary of their paths crossing. Journal Entry 2 by laevina at Denver, Colorado USA on Sunday, April 24, 2011
Rin is off to elementary school while Daikichi tries not to be too nervous at it. A year has past since Grandfather's death - both are learning to love and live together as a family. Sweet.

Journal Entry 3 by GoryDetails at Nashua, New Hampshire USA on Tuesday, August 09, 2011
This book arrived today in perhaps the most beautiful wrapping I've ever received - it was a stunning black-and-white snow scene that turned out to be a reproduction of Ansel Adams' "Half Dome, Apple Orchard" print - really lovely! [And much more welcome on a sultry summer day than if I'd received it during last winter's overwhelming snowstorms {grin}.] I really enjoyed Volume One and Volume Two, and look forward to reading this one.

Journal Entry 4 by GoryDetails at Nashua, New Hampshire USA on Thursday, August 25, 2011
Another enjoyable entry in this daily-life, family-forming series! This one opens with a discussion of "memorial trees" (including a charming bit where Daikichi recalls his sister's jealousy that his tree was prettier than hers). [My family has some memorial trees as well, though we generally planted those to recall those who had gone, rather than, as here, to commemorate a birth. I think I'd fear the symbolism if a living person's tree suffered some accident!] Anyway, lots of nostalgia going on here, from Rin's "superhero" act as she jumps over her newly-planted seeds to make them grow (I used to run and jump over *everything*) to the family anecdotes to the back-to-school preparations. More time is given to events at school, too, as Rin's circle of friends grows. In Volume 2 Daikichi found Rin's mother, and in this volume he learns more about her (and so do we, the readers, as there are scenes about her that are not witnessed by Daikichi). I admit I wasn't expecting the details behind that particular plot twist, but it's a refreshing change from what I *had* been expecting. Family, growth, change - simple themes for a story, but I'm enjoying this.

Journal Entry 7 by azuki at Miami, Florida USA on Monday, October 03, 2011
I very much enjoy this volume. The memorial tree bit is lovely, and as I grew up in a city I never experience anything like that. Rin's mom gets a lot of pages in this volume too, making me wonder where the story will head. I don't suppose she will want to take Rin back? Will send both volumes to okyrhoe now.
