Product Description
Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.

Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire -- and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

SOULLESS is a comedy of manners set in Victorian London: full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.

Thanks Minerva101!

I'm delighted to receive this -- I read about it on Goodreads and it sounded tremendous fun. I hope it lives up to expectations! I've got a pile of reading to do tonight, and then should be able to start this tomorrow.

Thanks also for the selection of lovely bookmarks. I'm notorious for losing bookmarks (I think I mostly leave them in library books) so it's great to have some new ones!

Fun, fun, fun!

This is a highly enjoyable quick read. It's essentially whimsical supernatural romance within a Victorian steampunk setting, which can hardly fail to be entertaining. The cover tagline "A novel of vampires, werewolves, and parasols" says it all. I'll be looking for the sequels (a quick Amazon search says that there are already four books in the series -- quite impressive seeing as this one was only published in 2009).

Thanks, again, Minerva101!

Arrived (you have gorgeous handwriting!)
This looks like such fun, I can't wait, especially after my current read (which I'm really enjoying but is kinda on the depressing side thematically!)

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Well, I really liked reading the book, but it was not the easy read I expected.
Not easy because the first 50 pages it really took me some effort to keep up with the story, and to continue reading.
This made me put away the book, causing extra confusion, because I had problems clearly separating Lord Maccon from Lord Akeldama (which is quite a difference, right :)))
What I simply loved from the start was the Victorian Steampunk setting. The machinery, the silver, the copper. Great !
I read that there are people who hated being constantly reminded about her Italian nose and tan, but I didn't have any problems there.
And after those 50 pages, the story just sucked me in , and I loved it. I think I'll read some more of this author.
The language was sometimes challenging for me. There where quite a lot of words I had to look up. That's nice , because that improves my English.
I'm now forwarding this to the next reader. I have her adress from a beautiful card she sent me most recently :-)))

Journal Entry 16 by wingrodespringbalwing at Moerbeke-Waas, Oost-Vlaanderen / Flandre Orientale Belgium on Sunday, October 2, 2011
haha thanks bloedengel for the compliment on the card and for sending this book.
Recieved it this friday

Started to read in it and I must say that it was a quick read for me. Lately every bookstore has a bookshelf full of vampire-stories. And this is one of them... and I must say I'm not a fan of the whole Victorian-style. Like bloedengel I also had to look for an English dictionnary every once and a while. So sorry to say but I'm glad I finished it and I'm a bit proud of myself :)

going to the next reader after I got the address.

Woohoo... it's finally here. This book arrived on a stinking hot, so-close-to-Summer-it's-not-funny day. I'm currently reading '11-22-63' by Stephen King (but it's a real tome of a book, so I can put it aside for now as I have done it over the last week because it's been so busy). Can't wait to get into this one.

Journal Entry 18 by mattandmandy75 at Cockatoo, Victoria Australia on Friday, August 2, 2019
Arrived in a book bag from Mozette, thank you.
Most excited to see it was originally registered in Canada.
I will release this one for someone else to find at a later date.
