Journal Entry 1 by fruitbat from Cottage Grove, Oregon USA on Tuesday, September 09, 2003
Cecile is a peasant girl who gets the chance to serve at the court of Louis XIV, The Sun King. Told in first person, the novel is engaging, well-written, historically accurate (as are all the Girls of Many Lands series); will appeal to fans of the Royal Diaries series (of which I am one) and readers of all ages and genders.

Journal Entry 5 by needlewench from Harmony, Rhode Island USA on Wednesday, October 15, 2003
This was a book which begged to be devoured in one sitting, so i had to oblige. Light, gay, and as sunny as the gardens of France themselves, the author weaves a sweet tale with her heroine into perfect period detail. But just like court life itself, not everything is gilded and sweet. A dark thread of worry, mystery, and danger runs beneath it all, and young Cécile learns that a princesses life is not the fairy tale oft dreamed about. Mary Casanova captures the entire atmosphere perfectly with her writing. Historical detail is accurate, and yet not presented so that it interferes with the story or the character development. Everything flows as smoothly as a well executed French-seam. She creates a lovely heroine with Cécile, and rounds out historical figures with the deft hand of an artist. A full cast of characters you care about, are delightfully suspicious of, and root for in the end. Absolutely delightful!

Journal Entry 14 by fly46 from Nashville, Tennessee USA on Saturday, August 14, 2004
Finally, I've gotten a second one of these. I was first on the Minuk book, and since then, I've been dying to read another one. But, even though the suspense will kill me, I'm going to save it for my plane ride home from Ohio back to Nashville since it's the shortest book I have with me and I'm in the middle of two more.

So much for that wait for the plane thing. Read the book, and I just don't know about this one. I found the story predictable and slightly unbelieveable. I'm also kind of dissapointed that the author used a true story and just added in a few minor characters. To me, that made the story lack even more in a story that was already lacking. I think I was also spoiled by the other GOML book that I read - Minuk - which actually made me cry.

I loved this book! I think I loved the setting more than anything. The descriptions of Versailles and the people there were very detailed. I've been there twice and always wondered what it had been like during the time of Louis XIV. Sending to sejent as soon as I get her address:)

I really enjoyed this book a lot. It was very well told and I liked Cecile very much. moeckie has not responded to my PMs nor has fruitbat. I'm not sure what I should do with this book. Does anyone have any contact information for either of these two?
